2nd Trimester

Warts...

This is so gross. I have about 7 warts on the bottom of my big toe and the toe next to it. They seem to be very callused (sp) and OTC medications don't seem to work. They have popped up since I got pregnant. It's so weird. The last time I had warts I was a sophomore in high school and they were planters warts. These aren't planters warts, though.

Does anyone know if a podiatrist or dermatologist can burn them off for me while I'm pregnant?

Re: Warts...

  • I can't imagine it would be a problem... They use liquid nitrogen to do it, and as far as I know it doesn't get in your blood stream at all...

Not sure why they popped up now... Weird! Good luck!

  • They can burn, freeze or cut them off. I used to get them all the time when I was in first grade, for some reason. I hope they do whatever hurts the least in the long run, though!

  • Thanks ladies! I'll call the podiotrist in my General Practitioner's office on Tuesday, and if he won't do it I'll talk to my OB on the 24th.
  • I had this really hideously huge wart on my left thumb for over a year.  I tried every otc med out there and it actually got bigger.  Then I started looking at home remedies as a last resort to getting them burned off.  I would take a piece of cotton ball, soak it in apple cider vinegar, hold it in place with a bandaid and then leave it on overnight.  It would sting like crazy, but it worked!  The wart would turn black and then a layer would fall off.  After several, several weeks of doing this and layers falling off, my finger is now completely clear, not even a scar!  It's been almost 6 months and I haven't seen any regrowth yet.

Do you know if it HAS to be apple cider vinegar? Would regular vinegar work? And did you let it air out during the day?

  • I believe it has to be apple cider vinegar.  I did not air it out during the day, that might be why it took so long.  It was so gross looking, I had to cover it up with a bandaid during the day.  If I remember correctly, with the plantar warts on the feet, they recommend filing down the callous until the wart is exposed and then doing the treatment.

Very interesting - thank you! I'll do some research! I'm a big fan of at-home remedies!

  • No problem.  I wouldn't have mentioned anything, but it did work for me where nothing else would.  And the no scar thing is definitely a bonus!

  • Duct tape works too.  My sis had a wart on her foot and she put a small piece of duct tape over it and eventually it fell off and hasn't come back.

I've been Googling at home remedies for the past 10 minutes and there are a lot of people that swear by the duct tape or the apple cider vinegar remedies! And neither one is a medication that I have to put in or on my body so I won't have to worry about baby - thanks girls!

  • Whatever you do, have patience with it.  Neither work over night, but they do work.  Good luck!

  • I have a plantar's wart on the bottom of my foot and my OB said unless it gets really bad the best option is to wait until post-baby to get it removed. He said he would not recommend the OTC treatments that you can buy at the drug store but that if it got really bad they could freeze it off still. So maybe see if you can get in for that?
  • I, myself,am doing the ACV treatment.I have had Planter Warts for some time.NOTHING has worked!! So,for about a month and a half,I have been trying this.Even thought it is taking awhile;it is working. You just have to keep at it.My problem is,is it really painful.I try to pumice layers off every few days. Then it REALLY hurts. But I am sure this will be the final treatment! Try it!!
  • i got one with my last pregnancy...

they can either cut it off and they burn it to stop the bleeding or they can use the liquid nitrogen.  either way, it hurts, but it's not harmful.

otc stuff didn't work for me, either!!  good luck!

  • TRY APPLE CIDER VINEGAR!! Soak a cotton ball and stick it on with some tape or a bandaid. My sister SWEARS by this....

not sure about the dermo, but i dont see why not as it is topical.

  • I just got my first wart on the side of my arm..its so annoying..I tried to freeze it off myself with that Dr Scholls kit but it didn't take it off all the way and it hurt..I am going to the dermatologist  in October to have it removed, my OB said Novocaine and freeze it off is fine during pregnancy..
  • I would try vinegar or wait until after the PG to use the doctor's treatments.
