potty training parents what do you do in public places

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I don't know what to do in a public restroom. I need to hold him, he needs to push his penis down and I think he's afraid he'll fall in and feels unstable and won't go in public restrooms.

I tried I fold up seat (first years I think- it's white and blue

but it doesn't stay still and moves around way too much.

  • We have DS either stand or kneel on the seat in public restrooms. He will sit on the actual seat, but he needs to have his legs spread out so he's more stable and that means I have to completely take his pants off. It's a pain. Anyway, that's what works for us.

  • Will he not go standing up?

this. My son is too short to stand. He is only 26 months.

  • Well, in the event that I don't take the folding potty seat, I just put a paper liner (or even tp) on the seat and have him sit and pee while I hold him so he doesn't feel like he's going to fall in.  So far, so good.

  • I look for the cleanest toilet I can find and he just sits on the seat, with his tushy on the back part. hold him under the arm pits to steady him.
  • I carry a travel size lysol can in my purse so I can spray down the toilet first, then he either stands and pees or sits on it and pees. I use my lysol to spray the flush handle  and the door handle as well....I hate public bathrooms.

THey sell the tiny lysol sprayers at the checkout at Target in case anyone wants to get some, too.

  • I use the fold up seat, haven't had too much trouble with it moving. But, I put DD on it carefully and she's not squirmy.  With my DS, he was too short to reach standing up for awhile, so I had him stand on top of my feet or I help him up a little.  Worked well for us.  Have your DH show him how to do it at home.
  • I sit DD on the toilet, I squat in front of her and put my hand on the small of her back. When she was younger she would grab on to my neck to hold on but now she holds on to the toilet seat. She was a little anxious about it at first, but I just told her "mama's got you" and eventually she started asking "mama got you?" and when I said yes she'd let go of my neck. And now she never grabs my neck.

I bought a fold up seat, couldn't make it work and returned it. Darn thing wouldn't lay flat without me keeping a hand on it and I needed both hands to lift DD up there.
