I was just curious .... It looked interesting to read about and I thought about it but decided not to go there ..... but i was just asking a question because I have never heard of it until recently .....
WOW!!! Did know that this was a bad question to ask .... I guess this is being 'Flamed' haha Sorry.... I didn't think it would be such a crazy question

Well maybe if you lurked more you would know that most of the ladies on here have been TTC for a very long time or have had multiple losses and that the sex of the baby just isn't important. Then you would understand how ignorant your question was.
I've looked at both out of curiosity. Both seem to have about a 50% chance of working... so basically, they don't make a difference. I do have friends and family that swear by the Shettles Method. I wouldn't want to try any method though at requires having no sex on some of the days that fertility is most likely (like Whelan does). A lot of people I know prefer to have one gender "this time" over the other and as long as you would still be happy either way, I don't see why it matters if you try some method. If someone would really HATE to have a boy or a girl then it would be time to rethink gp and look into adoption.
No, but I have tried the hump-my-husband-like-crazy-and-hope-one-sperm-finds-egg method.
So far, no luck.

I understand and strong enought to take a good 'Flaming' ---- but this board was I thought about ttc and not the Trouble ttc ..... I just started ttc and have questions just like i'm sure you guys did at first also ...... I am learning about this board but I really didn't mean to offend anyone and really and truly just had that question.
Also, I guess I should add why I even read about it .... my DH just lost his father in a motorcycle accident and would love to name our child (if it is a boy) his name but either way we are happy with a boy or a girl as long as it is healthy..... but that is why I was just ready about it

Some helpful hints to help you out if you plan to continue on this board, or even ttc in general:
1. lurk on this board before posting!
2. read the book Taking Charge Of Your Fertility. It will answer most of your questions.
3. Begin charting on FertilityFriend.com. There is even a course you can take through them for free to help you begin charting.
4. Google is your friend.
And you should know this: ttc IS hard! It can take up to one year or more. This board is about the difficulties and the support of ttc...it is the journey of ttc....whatever "trouble", obstacles, or situations that may include. The women on here just want to be pregnant and be moms...they don't care the gender of the baby. When posting, you need to be sensitive to the fact that these women have been ttc and dreaming of having children and phrase your posts with that sensitivity...esp when you are a newbie. Do your research first before asking questions. Even lurk to try to find the answer before posting the question.

OP: I think this is a perfectly acceptable question for a board called, "Getting Pregnant". Yes, many of the girls here are having trouble TTC, but many of us aren't in that boat (but are scared to post topics like this for risk of stepping on toes), and a post like this is a breath of fresh air.
To answer your question, yes, I have thought about trying out that method, but because I have been on birth control for soooo long, and after reading all of the posts about miscarriage and whatnot, I feel like I am supposed to not care about what gender I get. But in all honesty, I would love to get a girl. All the first born women in my family have the same middle name and I would love nothing more than to have a girl and continue the tradition. I am 29, so I am starting to hear the clock ticking. I suppose I will continue to chart and continue to have sex each day that I believe I am fertile because having a child of any sex is much better than no child at all.

If you talk to people who already have kids, you'll find that a lot of them have tried these methods to get a certain sex. It's really hit or miss with the results. I personally don't think there is any truth to them but if you are not in a rush to TTC, then you could give it a shot for a few months and see if it works. The only downside is that you are NOT having sex on all of your fertile days, so your chance of getting pregnant each cycle goes down.
Fertility Friend has a tool on their site that will tell you when to start and stop having sex based on what gender you want.
I think the name of this board "getting pregnant" gives the idea that you can discuss whatever you want to know about getting pregnant. Seems reasonable given the name of this group. Yes, it is good to lurk and see if there is any topic like what you are wanting to know about, but if it doesn't show on the first few pages I think you are fine to post your questions.
Some people are nice, others are not as nice. Some people on the boards have had difficulties getting pregnant, so I can understand them being sensitive about certain issues, but honestly, this is a public forum. You will get some "nice" responses, and some "rude" responses most of the time. Do not feel the need to be sorry. You are totally fine!
Reading the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" is strongly suggested because like a previous poster said, it answers most questions. It is a wonderful book resource.
Wow, piecesofflare ..... we get it .... you didn't like the question. It's ok .... you don't have to keep being negative. I'm sorry if you are having a bad day today --- hope you feel better soon!
Thanks goodgalpal for you comment! I think all the people that have all the negative comments didn't actually read my question fully....it was just a question. And you are right it is a Public board which means that everyone will have a opinion - which is great - but it seems in this post that it is like a pack of wolfs out to hunt the newbies. I'm sorry if some of you ladies took the question wrong but it wasn't intended to attack ... it was a question that many people question or it wouldn't be on the internet so much. Once again it was just a question ........
Ok.... but that was my question --- has anyone tried to or seen this. Once again it was a question. It wasn't that I wouldn't be happy with one or the other .... I just want a happy healthy baby ...but it was interesting to view these methods. If you think it was dumb then great ... you could have just said ---- ' I think it is ridiculous and I wouldn't do it' which would have been much more appreciated then all the crazy/neg comments that most people posted.
We all need to be POSITIVE on these boards and support eachother (even if you think it is a dumb question) we all have the same goal --- GET PREGNANT --- some has been dealing with the issues for a while and some have not ... I say GL to ALL and instead of attacking eachother direct the newbies and others in a positive path and lend a hand if you can.
To the OP, yes, this is a public forum and yes, you can post anything you want. But as with anywhere, it's always a good idea to lurk a bit before jumping in. If you lurked first, you would have known that gender selection is not a popular topic here. Most of the people here just want to get pregnant, period. The idea of wanting a boy/girl is not exactly at the top of their priority lists at this point.
Re: Has anyone tried to do the Shettles Method or Whelan Method
*giggles and waves to MTML*
I'm going to repeat the advice you got before to lurk.
::waves back to sulfa::
No, but I have tried the hump-my-husband-like-crazy-and-hope-one-sperm-finds-egg method.
So far, no luck.
not me. I don't go to "that" store....
I think once you open the original packaging and let them all out they won't take them back anymore.
Well maybe if you lurked more you would know that most of the ladies on here have been TTC for a very long time or have had multiple losses and that the sex of the baby just isn't important. Then you would understand how ignorant your question was.
I am trying this method too, and so far no luck for me either. hmmmm....

Should have shopped at Nordstorm. Very liberal return policy.

nicely said!
LMAO at this whole post, especially the "Cheers" part.

I agree ... this question got Crazy! I think everyone got out what they had to say and it's almost off the front page so that will be good
time to move past the crazy question that the newbie asked ...
This, totally.
