So at the restaurant my husband owns we have ton of regulars alot of whom have known us since we were dating. engaged, married and now that we are having a baby its like its the grandchild or niece or nephew....Its amazing...until today when one of the customers asked me how I was feeling and brought me some fresh baked cookies....yum...that made life worth living....not the point though....sitting at the next table was a 30 something couple who decides to inform me what a selfish choice is it for me to have child in an overcrowded, polluted world....with an unstable economy in which a child will suck even more money out of this country...To which I replyed "my husband and I do very well for ourselves and will provided a great and loving home for a child...."to which these arrogant fools replied, "then why are you hosting in a restaurant???" I said because I like to work and I care about his business.....It took everything I had not to punch them in their self abosorbed faces!!! The guys then tells me thank you for killing mother nature, and that he sure like all kids born today mine will end up on drugs....My bus boy who was busing a table came over and asked them to leave...I told them to please stay because their words hadn't offended but encouraged me to raise my children different then their had them!! I then walked away...good riddens!!!
Re: WHO THE "HE double hocky stick" r these nuts!!
That's really odd. Were they drunk?
Wow... sounds like a bunch of postive and upbeat people. Geez.
Something else to consider to responding to such philosophies on our planet--and it depends on whether you believe in a god or not. Your pregnancy (and all of our pregnancies) are part of the natural cycle of life, part of nature. George Carlin actually touched upon something genius in one of his routines (he was a very smart man) and so does Daniel Quinn in Ishmael if anyone has read it. I am definitely someone who likes to recycle and try and take care of this earth that has so generously taken care of me my whole life, but human beings have not managed to kill the planet--yet. I agree there are dangers in our behavior, but I have faith that we as the human race are trying to correct them. Nature and the cycle of the earth and planets and universe are much bigger than we are. The earth has a lot of defensives at her disposal--hurricanes, Tsunamis, tornados, disease etc--that definitely work to fight the creeping of humanity. I know this sounds harsh, but look at this way, these are natural ways of keeping the human foot print within boundaries that do not threaten the earth's own survival. They are survival instincts and actions just like we have them. The two very rude and obvioulsy narrow-minded individuals obviously have not thought about how diseases and famine and natural disasters etc really work to protect the planet--not just from humans but from the animal kingdom and other changes the earth goes through. I wonder what they would think of that? This does not mean I am happy by any means to see such horrible events take place, but I try to put them in perspective when I sit there and watch Katrina victims with no homes and look to God and say "Why? Why would you allow this?" Then I look for ways to volunteer or donate to help, another bright spot about humanity, we do tend to look out for one another when we are in need.
Also part of this natural cycle are pregnancy and birth of new human beings, ones that we have the power to shape to learn to change these bad behaviors that damage our environment, why wouldn't they want MORE people that think like them that want to defend the planet? The less people there are for their cause the less impact they will have.
Anyway, just some thoughts...
What idiots! Did they not consider that they once were children and they are lucky that their mothers were UNSELFISH enough to give birth to them? That is ridiculous....you reacted way better than I would have! Being a mother is anything but selfish! They obviously did not have a good family growing up, or they would have totally different feelings about children. I guess it is actually very sad for them that they can't see past their bad experiences...
I am very proud of you with your response! You handled it so well!
Wait.... Was the guy 30 going on 70? O I forgot that's exactly why I'm going to have a baby so when he/she is 18 they can be on drugs. Thank you sir for enlightening me on MY pregnancy and MY childs life. What an a**. Next time they come in you should make them wait like an hour or something.
You are far better of a person than I am...I would not have been able to hold back the raging hormones these days!
I bet they were just looking for a free meal...people are desperate to do just about anything these days.
I hope you enjoyed the cookies... they were well deserved after that!
First I have to say, like everyone else has, that the way you handled the situation was awsome. Way to stay composed!
Secondly, I noticed we are from the same town! You're the only other person I've seen on here from Jacksonville!!
