i got a rocking chair for dd's room, but honestly whenever i breast fed i wanted to be on the couch downstairs with my husband. i have used the rocking chair only a handful of times. it looks pretty in the room but i am glad i only spent $50. i don't think i would have ever used a glider!
Re: am i the only one that didnt get a glider?
I just bought a big brown leather recliner, and I'm already sitting in it to read and surf the net.
I wanted something comfortable enough to sleep in if I wanted to. I also wanted something that could be moved to another area of the house after it wasn't needed in the baby's room anymore.
Gliders scream "BABY" to me. Our room is more "young boy," with navy and red. The brown leather recliner matches well, and the whole room will be perfectly fine until our LO is 5 or 6 years old.
We didn't get a glider either. I think we'll wait and see if we actually need one. If we do, we'll probably get an upholstered one that we can move to our basement family room later on.
We bought a fully upholstered gliding chair. I'm glad we did - infact, we bought two. But we have used the crib from day one and so most of his feedings were also all done in his room.
We bought them in a neutral color so that they could be moved to other areas of the house in the future or in baby #2's room.
We already owned a rocking chair when DS was born so it was placed in his room....I've only rocked him it in a handful of times in the the middle of the night....I don't think I ever fed him in there....I'd usually set myself up in our bedroom when he was in the bassinet or in the living room so I could watch TV or read while he breastfed. He took forever when he was a little guy.
We got a big upholstered chair for the new baby's room.....it is dark brown which will go with the new nursery decor but it is also versatile enough to go in another room someday.
I am going to get some small seating item for that room...not sure what yet, but it wont be a glider/rocker. The room just isnt big enough for it.
The nursery is just steps away from our bonus room where we have a big comfy couch, chair, ottoman, tv, etc....so I am planning on spending more time in there than the nursery.
When our last recliner died we were still TTC. We decided that since we don't make big purchases often we would replace it with a small scale rocker/recliner that we could use in the den or nursery. Now that we are close we have set it up in the nursery. I will probably be getting a slipcover for it because blue would just look better in that room than beige.
My nursery is small 8x9 - so between the changing table crib and recliner there isn't a lot of floor space left, however the ability to sleep in that room if baby is sick or fussy or just needing attention (or if mommy gets paranoid) is worth the cost in space to me. When he gets to the toddler stage the changing table and rocker will go and make room for big boy items like a toy chest or art station.
We did the exact same thing for the exact same reasons.
I got a rocking chair for $30 off craigslist.
Reasons -- room is too small for a glider & after I get the hang of breast feeding I will probably be comfortable doing it in the living room.
I was given a very comfy rocking chair. It is much more comfortable than the gliders I tried out, and it's the perfect size for sitting criss-cross with the Boppy to nurse.
I used to nurse DD on the couch so I could talk to DH, but once she hit 5 months she became easily distracted. Now we always retreat to her nursery where she can nurse in silence.
