Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Any other germophobes out there???

I am a germ -freak...I know...especially with the swine flu going around...I HATE anyone touching baby except my parents and my husband. ...Even my ILs, and I feel uncomfortable asking certain people to wash their hands before they touch DS. My FIL kisses bay's face and hands and I HATE it...to the point that I try to void him if possible.  Am I crazy???

  • You're not alone. From the very beginning we put bottles of hand sanitizer around the house. Now when anyone comes over they automatically sanitize. I don't have the inlaw issue, but I have found that when we are out strangers try to touch her. The one I really don't get is cashiers, they handle money, why do they think its ok to touch her?!? To solve this problem I usually wear her in her sling. This allows me just to take a step back. I use the sling when we are shopping and even around extended family.

  • I hate it too, but now that he's older than 2 months I just try to tell myself that some germs are good and he needs to be exposed to them.  If he's not subjected to germs then his immune can't get stronger.  As long as they haven't been sick or around sick people lately, then I try not to worry...it's still hard though.  I am not looking forward to him getting sick.

As for the swine flu...both DH and I are getting the vaccinations as well as his grandparents.

  • I am a germophobe too, but I understand that even with the best precautions you can get sick.
I wash my hands and encourage everyone else around me to before touching my DS.  Good hand hygiene is really key to keep from getting sick.

I work as a nurse and I wipe down EVERYTHING at least once a shift in my unit...and I mean everything.  It drives my co-workers crazy because the entire unit smells like bleach.
