I will start at the beginning. Since April, I have been helping out one of our branches in a different town. The office I usually work in is about 5 miles from my apartment, while the one I have been working at for the last 5 months is 85 miles away. In April, I was given the choice to either help out or other branch or not have a job. (My main office's business had slowed due to the economy, so they didn't have a need for me there....and they wanted to get someone in to my current office while they recruited for an open position) At this point I was told this would probably last about 3 months.) So I agreed to drive 85 miles each way every day to work. At the time I had started to look for other work, but when I found out I was pregnant I decided to stick it out because I have my insurance through work.
Fast forward to now. Business has picked up in my main branch and they have reached the point, financially, that they originally said they could bring me back at. The person doing the recruiting for the opening in the branch I"m currently working in has been dragging their feet. They still haven't found anyone. Yesterday I fould out the only other person in this office will be out for a month for medical leave......which means I will be the only person running this office and stuck driving for at least another month.
I know I need to talk to my manager. There is no way I can keep doing this every day, but I don't want to be out of a job....and I am grateful to still be working. If you were in this situation, how would you approach the manager? Just looking for some advice. Thank you for reading this novel I just wrote and TIA for any advice.
