Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Is it okay to take 1 year old trick or treating???

My husband pointed out that Robbie won't actually be eating the candy so he doesn't think it's right to take him out.

Re: Is it okay to take 1 year old trick or treating???

  • I hope so bc we're taking DS to a few houses this yr.  DH wanted to take him out last yr at 1 month so he could get he candy lol.  Yes, I think its okay and I think they'll love seeing every other child dressed up as well.

  • We are taking DS with DD since she's older just to show off his cuteness:) I'm sure a few people we know will give him some pretzel fish or something like I usually do for the LO's, but I won't be TOTing w/him at every house. If I only had a one year old, I'd probably only take him to neighbors I  know, again- to display his Hallowwen costume cuteness! lol  Hope this helps.

  • Yes.  Is it okay to give a 13 month old candy bars with nuts and twizzlers?  Probably not!    FWIW, I LOVE seeing the neighborhood babies come around.

  • It's up to you. DS won't be eating the candy and, as of right now, he's not even walking yet. He might be by 10/31, but we're still not taking him out TOT. He'll go to his grandparents' houses and maybe to my brother and SIL's house. We also might also go to some Halloween events that day.

  • I took Chase out last year at 8 months and he will definitely be going out this year. ;-)
  • I am taking DD out.  We get a lot of non candy treats around here and even if we don't, DD will love people watching.

  • I sure as heck hope so. I plan on strapping the girls in their stroller and going ToTing so I can get some yummy candy :)
  • We're walking her around the neighborhood (we have one of those neighborhoods where halloween is huge and there are tons of people from all over the city) to see everything, but will probably only take her to a few houses of people we know.
  • I've seen a lot of young toddlers tot'ing and I'm assuming that they weren't eating any of the candy. I think it's fine if you want to take him.

We aren't this year because we live in a very rural area and don't have many houses close by. We'll wait until next year I think.

  • Our zoo has a TOT so we will be going there. My MIL also has a big Halloween get together.  DD loves the zoo (and we have a zoo pass) and I think she is too little to TOT in the neighborhood.
  • Luke went last year and had a blast.  He won't be eating the candy either, but it is just too much fun!
  • I totally want to take my baby trick or treating.  Moms of small children deserve free candy LOL

  • We will TOT this year. We have an awesome block, at least 8 neighbors that I can think of with LOs under 5 years old so we'll definitely hit up the people we know. I'll even let DS have a little candy, maybe a PB cup or something.

    That sounds awesome!!!

  • We plan on taking Ayden to certain houses in our neighborhood but only like 4 or 5 houses.  Its more to see the people than anything! (and to show off my super cool kid)

  • We took DD last year.  She was 10 months.  She had a blast and I got candy.  Best of both worlds!

  • We are moving into a new house a month before Halloween, so absolutely, yes, what better way to go around door to door and introduce ourselves! And hey, if they want to give us candy, well, it's my reward for brightening their day with my cute kid. ;P

  • i took ds last year to a handful of houses in our old neighborhood (he was 9 months old and sat in the wagon all dressed up with our neighbor's son.

the older people in our neighborhood were so pleased to see the kids dressed up.  ds wasnt even eating solid food yet, so obviously he didn't eat the candy....but that is not what it is about.

this year we live in a new neighborhood and we are going out in the wagon with our friend's from our old house

~after 34 cycles we finally got our 2nd little bundle of joy~

  • I took a 10mo last year.

And I've had people come to the door with newborns. I knew the candy was going to Mom and Dad, and I didn't really care. It's about the activity.

  • Not only am I taking him TOTing, but I'm also letting him eat some of the candy *gasp*! Horrible. I know.
  • My parents block is having their block party that day....double the awesomeness of Halloween being on a Saturday.  So I am sure he will be worn out but if not I will take him to see all the elderly neighbors who I have known all my life.  But no candy for him or me.
  • i wouldn't. but im a halloween grump. we'll prob take aidan next year. but until then - i dont really see the point of going house to house (i think its fun for them to dress up and go to parties/fairs/etc, but ToTing seems odd)
