Preemies

Your 5-6 weeker sleeping schedule?

Does your 5-6 weeker still pretty much sleep all day?  My DD was born 4 weeks early and her adjusted age should be 1 1/2 weeks old.  She will be 6 weeks tomorrow and she is still sleepign alot.  Is this normal for a premie?  She gets up around 5pm and will stay awake for a good 3-4 hours.  But during the day, she will wake for feedings and then go back to sleep.  Just thinking she still sleeps alot.

Re: Your 5-6 weeker sleeping schedule?

  • My daughter was born at 34 weeks and she was/is a huge sleeper too. At 6 weeks she was still sleeping all the time.  Then, gradually she had a small awake time in the morning and a small awake time in the evening. Otherwise, like your DD she slept ALL day.  She didn't even wake up for feedings.  I got her up, but she ate and slept at the same time! :)

When she was 3 months, I was so worried because she still seemed to sleep soooo much.  Then, right when she turned 4 months she finally seemed to have more wake up times.

She wakes up in the morning at about 9:00 and she stays awake for about 1 1/2 hours.  Throughout the day it is pretty much the same pattern--eat, play for about 1 1/2 hours and then she is so ready to go to bed.  I also still have to wake her up to eat throughout the day.

So, I don't know if it's normal, but my preemie slept a lot too.
