How much of a "donation" to church for baptism?

If your LO was baptized, did you give the church or priest a separate donation/monetary gift? If so, how much?

TIA

Re: How much of a "donation" to church for baptism?

  • Our church doesn't charge or ask for a donation for Baptisms, but my cousin got her baby baptized at a Catholic church recently, and she gave them $100.

  • I would say a minimum of 50 dollars.
  • We had our LO baptized and we didnt give any monetary gift/donation. I actually never heard of someone doing so.

  • Our baptismal class gave us a folder with information in it, including a FAQ.  On the FAQ it said that nothing is required, since it is a sacrament, however, a monetary gift to the priest (of an amount equal to what you would spend on a nice dinner out) would be appreciated.  Then if the priest wants to pass it directly into the church's funds, he can.  We had our twins baptized a few weeks ago and gave the priest $60 (we figured a nice dinner out could run $30, times two babies).  We also invited him out to dinner with our families after the baptism.
