3rd Trimester

Aversion?!?!? Say again?!?!?

So, I am at my 35 week appointment with my doc and I measured about 1 1/2 cm smaller than I did 2 weeks ago, so my doc whips out the ultrasound to see that my little guy is in the traverse position (horizontal). So she starts talking about if he is in the same position at my next appointment (1 1/2 weeks) that she has to try aversion...now I saw the video and had my co worker tell me of her experience, and its not pretty..has anyone else had this done??? Is this super normal for my little man to switch up his position in a couple of weeks?

Re: Aversion?!?!? Say again?!?!?

  • Why would your doc want to do a version so early?  Baby can flip as late as 36-37 weeks.  Also, there is a risk of baby going into fetal distress and needing an emergency c/s so most docs won't even talk about doing one until you're 37 weeks.  I would refuse and see if baby flips on his own, and if he's still not head down then ask if a version is still an option if you want it.

  • She said she wants to do one at 37 weeks if he hasnt flipped....

  • I have heard that they have really good results with accupuncture.  You might want to look into this.

Well she'll be about 36 1/2 weeks at her next appointment.

OP, it's totally possible that your LO will move to the head down position on his own in the next few weeks. There are also other things you can do to try and flip a breech baby - here is a website I've heard is good:

I have heard that external versions are painful, but I have also heard that you can take medication during them. You'll have to talk to your doctor for more info. GL :)

  • YES - my DD flipped into the transverse position the day of my induction!  My doc did an external version and it was not bad at all.  It took all of 45 seconds.

Apparently my pregnancy brain is in full gear and I can't do math.  Ha.  34wk5d plus 1.5 weeks....nevermind.

Yeah, that didnt really make a whole lot of sense...at my next appointment I will be 36 1/2 weeks...and she would do it a few days later....Sorry..its almost bed time...

  • I 2nd the acupuncture idea.
  • I just had one done at 37 weeks 3 days. It hurts like crap even with an epidural. Mine did not go well, they were not able to turn him.

There is still a chance that your LO will still turn.

  • My LO was breech at 34 weeks 1 day...and I just found out that he turned head down today.  I really didn't do anything to help him along...just decided to turn on his own, I guess.  From what I've read most babies will turn on their own...only 3-4 percent remain breech.
