2nd Trimester

If this is your 2nd and you have a toddler

just wondering what stroller you are going to get.  My ds will be almost 3 when new baby comes.  He isn't much of a stroller kid anyway.  He walks everywhere we go.  But I was thinking what if I want to walk to the park or we go to the zoo for the day.  I would like something to keep the two of them in.  I was thinking the stroller where my son can sit on that ledge step and get buckled in and the new baby goes in a regular seat.  But then I thought ds wouldn't be able to pass out if he got tired and needed a nap.  so I was thinking an umbrella double stroller.  What are you going to use?

Re: If this is your 2nd and you have a toddler

  • I am getting 2 because I really want a jogger and have for a while so I am getting the phil and ted sport. and then I am getting the sit and stand since I don't know how long dd will actually be content sitting in a seat so with this she can stand on the platform if she wants or sit in the seat if she wants

  • We're looking at the Joovy Caboose (it's a sit 'n stand).
  • I think we are going with the Phil & Ted with doubles seat.  We went to a store and tried out several of the doubles strollers.  Many of them are very hard to steer or too wide to get through stores.  My DS will be almost 3 too when #2 comes, but right now he will not walk with us well enough to let him go on his own.  I like the option of being able to contain him, especially if I am out with them alone.

DH hated the sit and stand, but DS really seemed to like it.  He climbed right up and sat down.  He also like standing and being pushed.

If you are just going to use it for the zoo or something similar, I think it would work well.  If you want something that would be easier to push or if your DC#1 wanted to take a nap, you could try a side by side jogger.  They wouldn't be too wide for the zoo.

  • We're getting a sit n stand.  I wish we would have done that before.  I have a graco duoglider and I hate it.  It's hard to maneuver in stores.  We also have a baby trend double jogger and I do love that, but it's not great for mall shopping.

We want to get this one

But there is also this one that can be a double stroller or a sit n stand

  • I have this one...

Love it.  Been using it single style for like 5 months, just need to add the attachment.

  • We just decided on the Maclaren Twin Triumph (in coffee!) after reading lots and lots of reviews.  I didn't know this, but you can even use it for a newborn!  It's a great price, lightweight, and fits through standard doorways.  I am so excited about it!
I don't know what's up with my siggy and I am too lazy to figure it out.
  • We are not going to be getting a second stroller.  If we go to the mall or something we can borrow a double one from the info desk.  The zoo also rents strollers and wagons.  If I go for a walk DS can walk and I can use our stroller for LO, or DS can go in the stroller and LO can go in the sling.

My sister and I were 15months apart and I walked everywhere and my sister got the stroller.  So, since DS will be almost 3 when LO is born I'm not going to get a double.  But that may change after a few outings with both!

  • We are also getting the Maclaren double umbrella. I hate big strollers! I bought a big one for my first, and then bought a Maclaren...I haven't used the big one since!
  • we are getting the sit n stand double from onestepahead.com because my daughter will only be 18 months when this one arrives.
  • I have pretty close to the same situation.

3 y/o that isn't a huge stroller fan to begin with, but want the option if we spend a long day out, need to keep him buckled in the event of less than stellar walking conditions (like trips into the city) etc.

I'm not a big sit and stand fan. I don't own one, but a friend has one for her kids and I really dislike steering and the lack of a true seat for kid #2. It just seems like a bear to push and J would get bored quick with the lack of a good view.

I liked the Combi twin, it looked cushy and had a bar instead of handles, and the fold is super small. But, along with that cushy seat (and like the Combi single I currently have) the seat doesn't seem like it is suitable for older toddlers. The weight limit is in the range of 45lbs per seat, but J is a tiny three (at only 32lbs) and he just looked squished in there. Plus, the steering on a combi is stiff compared to the PP P3 Mac or RSB I'm used to and think it would be annoying.

I have a Mac single that I adore - but - they aren't cheap and the doubles less so.  Cost isn't a huge concern, but I hate the idea of springing for a $300+ double to only use it a few times. (and hear it from DH, of course.) And Macs are tippy by nature. A trade off for the fold, I guess, but I am a hang my stuff on the stroller sort of girl and the inability to do so grates on my nerves.

    So I bought this one:

It's a Chicco trevvi twin umbrella suitable from birth to like 50lbs. It has a decent size fold, nice steering and ample basket. I like the handles and the canopy. Best of all it is on sale now at BRU for $169.99. At my BRU they let you combine a 15% off stroller coupon and a 15% off any item coupon. So all in all it cost $123, which I'm sure I can get close to back if it ends up being unneccesary and/or barely used.(to spend on a new stroller of course :)
