2nd Trimester

20 week baby weight?

Hey!  We had our big ultrasound last Tuesday, and the doctor confirmed that we are having a boy!  We are thrilled, of course, and I can't wait to get started on his room!!

My question, however, is regarding baby's weight.  The tech said that LO weighed 12 ounces, and was measuring 20w1d (when my due date says that I was 19w3d, so just a little ahead).    Every book that I've read, and every online source that I've seen says an average weight for this time is around 9 ounces.

Does anyone else remember what weight their baby was at the big ultrasound?  She didn't seem to think this was a big baby, but I'm just wondering after doing some looking around.

Thanks!

Re: 20 week baby weight?

  • The tech didn't mention anything to us about LO's weight at the big u/s.

  • Congrats on the baby boy! Our baby's weight at 20 weeks was 9 ounces, I was measuring a week ahead so they moved my due date up. Talk to your OB about it- if she's not worried, than I wouldn't worry!
  • At 19w3d, ours was 11 ounces. From what I've  read, 10-12 ounces is average for twenty weeks gestation.
  • Your baby is measuring at 12 weeks when you are at 19 and there isn't a problem?  Please tell me that that is a typo.

  • Our tech didn't tell us the baby's weight, just that he is measuring 8 days ahead (consistent with each u/s we've had).

  • They said ours was 11 oz at the last one.  We have a very long baby already but we have very tall families and we were both long babies so it made sense! :)
  • Francesca weighed in at 12 ounces at our 20 week u/s.

I'm also hoping it's a typo that you were measuring 12 weeks at your 19 week ultrasound...Tongue Tied

  • they said our baby boy was 14 oz.  at 20w1d.  they said it wasn't big enough to change the delivery date, but they did mention he is measuring big.
  • Emmie's weight at 18 w U/S was 10 ounces.  He said that was right on track.  Babies will go through gowth spurts so I think as long as the baby isn't continually measuring big then they won't change your EDD.  (I could be wrong though)

100% a typo.  My brain just doesn't want to work today!

  • I had my big u/s at 19w4d and our LO weighed 12 oz...he was also measuring 10 days ahead as far as his measurements.  They didn't change my EDD and they also didn't say there was anything to worry about, so I didn't Big Smile

  • At 19w5d our LO weighed 10 oz. and they said she was right on schedule. I wouldn't worry.
  • He was 10oz at 18w5d, and I was measuring 19w3d.

  • I had my big ultrasound when I was 18w3d. The tech said that it look like our LO weighed about 11 oz. I thought that was pretty big for 18 weeks since all the books said they should weigh about 5.5-7 oz at that time. My doctor didn't seemed concerned and it made me wonder how they judge the weight. The tech told us that our baby was measuring ahead a week and had really long legs so i wonder if that had anything to do with it.

  • Our little boy was 8 oz at 18 weeks and 12 oz at 22 weeks.
  • I am sorry, I meant a full pound at 22 weeks! DUh.
  • Congrats and welcome to team blue!  I had my u/s at 20w5d.  The tech said that LO was measuring 21w3d and was 15oz.  DH and I are both pretty tall (6'3" and 5'11") so she basically made it sound like she expected LO to be a little big.
  • They told us that the baby weighed approx. 12 ounces. It really is somewhat of an estimation if I understand the way they do it.

  • yeah I had a similar experience. I had my ultrasound at 21 weeks but baby was already measuring 1lb 4oz which is the average weight of a 24 weeker Indifferent

Usually baby's measure 13oz around 21 weeks, so needless to say I was concerned.  But no one else was. The tech and my midwife said that it was perfectly normal.

  • He weighed 14 oz.  When I went to my doc 2 weeks later, she said he was meauring big and is considering changing my due date.
  • Ours measured 14oz at 20 weeks, 3 days.  They mentioned changing my due date, but left it as is.  So who knows?!?
  • She was 12 oz. at 20 weeks.  Doc said that was very average and 51st percentile.

  • At 20 wks, my big guy was 1 lb 3 oz.  Good Lordie.  My husband is a big man 6'5'' but I am short 5'2''.  Apparently LO is in the 62% for 20 wks.
