Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Another solids question

So I started DS on rice cereal about a week ago.  He likes it.  So I'm doing that each evening.  He goes to daycare during the day. So I'm going to start adding vegetables & fruits.  He made the funniest face ever when I gave him some sweet potatoes yesterday, like he was completely confused by what was in his mouth.  Anyway, if your LO is at daycare too, when did you start having daycare do some feeding too?  I don't think we have time in the morning at home.  Should I wait until he has the hang of it at night at home?  I guess I'm just not sure how quickly you're supposed to move to more than once a day.  TIA

Re: Another solids question

  • for now we only do solids at home, at night.  we'll give her 1/2 a jar of stage 1 at each feeding.  we tried having daycare do it but i'm a bit of a control freak and like to have that time to myself.

  • DD was slow with starting solids.  We only fed one meal a day at home for month 6.  At 7 months, we sent lunch to daycare.  We didn't send breakfast until she turned 9 months.  DD cut down on her BFing around 7 months once she started to enjoy solids, so that's why I waited to add the third meal.

FWIW, we skipped rice cereal and started with fruits and veggies (purees) at 6 months.  We tried oatmeal, but DD didn't like it.  We now sprinkle dry oats over some of her purees.

  • We started solids at 4 months and did just dinner for a month, added breakfast at 5 months and then added lunch at 6 months.  Our pedi suggested a much faster schedule, basically adding a meal each week.  I liked to take it a little slower though.  Now he has breakfast and lunch at daycare.

I'm also a little controlling and I want to be the one to introduce ds to new foods.  So I only send foods that he has had before to daycare.  I save any new foods for the weekends or days he is home with me.  If you LO has the hang of eating cereal and you have tried veggies or fuit then I don't see why you couldn't start having him eat at daycare.

  • We started breakfast at 4, lunch at 6 and dinner at 8.
  • I was told not to worry about a second meal until 8-9 months.
