Would you go to Guatemala while pregnant (on a missions trip)?

Okay, this is totally rando. DH and I are thinking of MAYBE TTC again next year for #2. Really, I would like to wait until next summer, but because we had IF the first time I am probably going to get my IUD removed in November to see if my cycles will regulate themselves again.

Anyhow. . . I might have the opportunity to lead a mission trip with my church to an orphanage in Guatemala in the late winter or spring. Now, chances are, I won't even be pregnant, but we all know God works in mysterious ways. If by some chance I were, would you go to Guatemala for a week to work in an orphanage or do you think it would be too risky?

  • No I would not.  I traveled in Guatemala and developed a massive tooth infection.  Even my host family encouraged me not to go to a dentist in the country and to fly home instead.

  • I would be worried about the food.  DH went on a missions trip to Bolivia and got a terrible parasite/bacteria.

  • Yeah, I pretty much just answered my own question by doing some simple research. You need to get vaccinated before going and some of the vaccinations are not safe for pregnant women.
  • Southern - the same thing happend to me in Bolivia
  • It does sound like a lovely opportunity..but I wouldn't. Maybe you could do something in the states?
  • I wouldn't. Don't you hate trying to plan things thinking " I could be pregnant". ::sigh:: I wish there was a way of knowing. Maybe someone else could lead the trip, and if you're not pregnant you could go, but if you are you won't have to worry about the trip being cancelled.
  • I would go. I've been there before and did not get sick at all.
