3rd Trimester

I haven't pooped in 9 days

I'm about to explode. Help! I've tried everything short of laxatives. Are they safe? If so, which kinds? I am a desperate woman.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question.

Re: I haven't pooped in 9 days

  • thanks guys...

I actually just sent DH to the store for prune juice (ugh!) and Fiber One bars. Wish me luck. LOL

  • Fiber One bars made me really gassy...but no poo.  Prune juice worked well.  A cup of tea does the trick (for me) if I haven't gone in for a day.  I also eat little packs of nuts, granola, and cranberries.  I can't think of the brand off hand.  They're orange and in the granola bar aisle.  They help keep me on track.

That's the worst feeling!  GL getting that stuff out! haha

  • Anything that is high in fiber should help, but I also suggest drinking a lot of milk and getting whole grains in your diet.  They're the ONLY thing that help me.  I've fought with constipation a LOT during pg and even fiber supplements didn't work for the longest time.  The only thing that keeps my regular is my morning bowl of Crispix! lol
  • If it's been that long...the Colace may not help.  You can take Milk of Magnesia...it works wonders!  You can take 2-4 Tbsp. and it works within 1/2 hr to 6 hrs.  I use it when it's last resort....but it really does work!

I used it with in my 1st pregnancy too...and is on my list of approved meds from my OB.

But I try to take Colace if it's not too bad or hasn't been too long.

    Good luck!

at this point I think you may be beyond prune juice and fiber one bars... you can take Colase - it's perfectly safe, just a stool softener, not a laxative. Worked really well for me. G/L!

  • I have been going through this also.  For awhile I couldn't tell if I had to go or if she was on my tailbone.  Well what worked for me today was CORN.  Plain old fashioned corn.  I had tried colace and citrucel.  But corn worked and worked quickly.  I hope you get the relief you need quick.
  • Eat a bunch of fruit- apples have tons of fiber but also eat some with fruits with a lot of water and that should help.
