Pregnant after a Loss

Induction? WWYD?

So I had my 38 week appt today and the dr. said my fluid looked low on U/S.  She sent me directly to the perinatologist.  They measured the fluid and said that it was 7 cm down from 11.5 last week.

So my dr. calls me and says that she can admit me Mon night and start cervadil and then tues start pitocin or I can go back to perinatologist on Tues and if fluid is lower at all go direclty L&D.

She did an internal today and no progress.  My cervix is not "ripe" so my risk for a C-Section would go up.

What would you do?  I have to call OB tomorrow to give her my decision.

Re: Induction? WWYD?

  • At 35 weeks my fluid levels were at 8 which they said was the low end of good.  They had me just increase my fluids and suggested swimming or soaking in a tub (the pressure of the water around you can push water out of your tissues and into your blood stream).  This worked for me.  The next week my levels were up.  My experience happened a few weeks before yours but maybe you can give it a try and suggest that they measure your fluid again before they induce you.  GL!

  • From what I've been told at CB classes we replace all amno fluid every few hours and if you get a leak your body can actually plug it. So I would wait and see.

  • So is your number actually 11? Or what is it. Mine was a 7 (5 days before my due date) and I got induced the next morning because it was too low. Low fluid is not anything to mess around with the baby really needs that to survive. I would get induced! GL
  • I would just schedule the induction for Monday if I were you. Going backt o see the perinatologist may be a waste of time and insurance money in a way. If he says it's low, they'll probably just admit you anyways. There really isn't any time left to try to increase your fluids that much.

I'd say go for it! Let that baby come out! ;)

  • research "bishop score" and that will help you determine if you are a good candidate for an induction. I had good experiences with an induction at 38 weeks but I was also already 100% effaced and 2cm dialated so everything progressed nicely.  If your body is not ready, then you will likely have more interventions and possibly a c-section, but in the end I am a firm believer in "healthy baby, healthy mama" so you should do whatever is in your baby's best interest.
