3rd Trimester

Cold or Congestion before labor begins....

I have heard that having a head cold could mean that labor is eminent and I know 2 people who had a bit of a head cold and had their babies about a week later...

Is this an OWT? Have any of you 2nd time mommies had this experience? I'm just curious.....because yes...I have a cold all of a sudden.  I'm sure it could be because of the weather change... but I'm hoping it means something else!..

  • It better be an OWT... I have a cold that the kids at school bestowed upon me! Not ready yet! =)

  • I just read in this book I received in my childbirth class that having flu-like symptoms (minus the fever) can be a sign of labor approaching soon.  GL!

  • I had never heard this, but I have one now, too. I posted something about it on facebook and a few friends commented that they got colds right before going into labor. Here's hoping that and the full moon will work their magic for both of us!
  • I read the same thing in my childbirth class book.

  • Very interesting.  I started feeling like I was getting a head cold yesterday.
  • I've never heard that before, but I'm not going to complain if there's truth to it.  I have a nasty chest cold/congestion for the last 3 days.  My throat is so sore and I've got a cough to go with it.  I just tossed it up to the weather change though :o)  If labor is immentent...so be it. :o)
  • Probably an OWT, but I do have a friend that had a cold about a week before labor. I also have been fighting one off, but need this baby to cook another week at least. Maybe it's because as we near the end, our bodies are worn down and we aren't sleeping well. At least I'm not! This makes it much easier to catch any little bug.

  • Hmm... see I've heard that if you are sick, your body will wait until you recover to go into labor...
  • Never heard that & actually have never had a cold before going into labor & I had two winter babies before ; )  But I have been sick all week & everyone including my doctor thinks I will be going this weekend.  I would like to wait at least until 38 weeks - I have small babies.  Everyone was sick in our household & I have not been sleeping so I am pretty sure that is why I have a cold.

  • These OWT better not be true because I've been having wicked diarrhea and my husband noticed when he got home from work that I'm getting sick (I hadn't noticed yet).

My little guy still needs several more weeks left before he becomes an outside baby!
