I'm getting overwhelmed

First we went through the crap with me and my illness. Then it was DD being tested for everything under the sun. Thank God everything turned out okay with her.

Now this thing with DS and his temp. I have to bring him for labs, chest x-ray and CT of his sinus. I HATE putting him through this. He's just so little! He gets a fever when he gets too hot and doesn't sweat. This has been happening since he was 2 months old that I know of.

If you have 2 or more children, do you have someone go with you for different tests to keep your other DC occupied? Or am I the only one that seems to need help?

Re: I'm getting overwhelmed

  • I don't bring siblings to the doctors office, even for office visits...its too distracting and I want to be focused on the kid that is in the office and what the doctor has to say...the ONLY time I have is when the girls had "well baby" visits at the same time.....OR to bring them both to get flu shots...but for tests like that, I'd find a sitter for the other child.
  • Loading the player...
  • If I can't get a sitter, I bring a portable dvd with headsets for the other kids.

this... After the month of dr visits we have had and an ER visit.. I was feelin overwhelmed too... Finally I broke down found a sitter and that last few visits have gone soooo easy!!! You are not a lone on being overwhelmed!!!

  • I'd either get a sitter or bring my sister or mom to help out.  With DS2's testing, we've always left DS1 with a family member or friend.  It's just too hard to focus while wrangling a preschooler.
  • I take both of my kids to the doctor with me if I need to, which I mostly do.  DD does pretty well.  She has peed on the floor at the ped, while I was taking care of DS, but oh well.  I do the best I can.  I am not hiring a babysitter for $15 an hour to watch her, when I often have to wait over an hour, pay a $25 copay, $15 to park, and 20% of what ever the total comes out to.
  • I don't have any help here, so I have to take everyone everywhere.

It kind of worked out to my advantage though when I was able to get DD1 a vax at DD2's visit and avoided an extra co-pay.

    There are benefits.

But, yeah, in general, it blows to have to take everyone along.  I've lucked out that I've had great doctors and staff who take mercy on me and help me out.
