Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Do you close the nursery door?

The crib in DS's nursery is just to the left of the door, so when he wakes up he is alway crawling towards the door.  We also have a nightlight in the hallway because it would be pitch black otherwise.  I am considering closing the door, so DS isn't drawn towards the light when he wakes.  What do you do?  Is your door opened or closed and why?

Re: Do you close the nursery door?

  • DD's door stays closed. Just makes sense. Blocks light, noise, etc.

  • I keep a light on in the living room and close her door all but a crack. I think she likes it better dark though.

  • Closed. Because the dog and cat would run in there with their tags jingling and wake her up. Also because we don't want to have to be as quiet since she goes to bed before us.

    Why are you overanalyzing this?

  • Haha, her door is almost all the way closed, but it's not actually latched.  I can't bring myself to turn the knob for some crazy reason.  However, her room is at the top of the stairs, and every little noise can be heard.
  • I found that even with it closed I can hear her crying. I hear every little peep she makes. Do you have a monitor? If you are worried you won't hear her, keep that on very low. DH is too noisy to keep the door open.
  • His door is closed.

His crib is also to the left of the door and he crawls to the door side.  He knows thats where I come in to get him.  It has nothing to do with light.

  • We are getting ready to start our second attempt at sleep training and I am trying to figure out what I can do to help DS fall and stay asleep.  Right now the moment he wakes up, he rolls over and crawls towards the door and starts to climb up the crib.  It is like a reflex he can't stop.  That is why I am concerned.

  • I usually leave it open. She has white noise on, so we don't have to worry about being quiet. I usually like to go in there and take care of little things (laundry, putting away things, etc.), so that's why I like to keep it open. The only time I close her door is when we have company.
  • I close it for naps and when they go to sleep at night.  We open it when we go to bed, so we can hear them if they cry at night.  Having the monitor on keeps DH up, and our room is right across the hall so if they cry with the door open we hear them.  If we could keep the monitor on all night I'd just leave the door shut all night.

  • We keep it closed to keep it dark and quieter.
  • I close her door.  Mainly to keep the cat out.  I put a nightlight in her room- it work great at night when I need to go in and don't want to turn the main light on.
