Q about daycare and crib assignments

Today was ds's first day back after being out for two days.  When I get there I notice another infants items are in ds's crib and overhear the teacher saying they needed to move those things.  If definately looked like another child slept there while he was out sick.  Is this normal?  I only worry about it because it makes me wonder if they changed the sheet before ds was put back in there today.  I really want to just ask if in fact this was the case, and if it is standard practice to change the sheets/sanitize the mattress in between children.  Would I be out of line by asking?

Re: Q about daycare and crib assignments

  • They sometimes store stuff in the cribs that aren't being used at my dc. However, they never do this with sheets, etc in them. Each child has their own sheets and they aren't shared. I think it's worth asking about.

  • I think it would be OK for you to ask. You could even phrase it as a concern given that DS was sick...wouldn't want another child to have gotten sick from sleeping on the same sheets...or that you wouldn't want your DS to sleep on the same sheets (without washing) from before he was sick.

In my state it is written in the licensing rules that centers have to have a separate sheet for every child.

  • I think it is fine to ask what the process is on this.  I know at my daycare they totally clean the sheets and all that in the cribs once or twice a week (I don't recall exactly as its been a while since I was in the infant room).  I know each child has a crib assigned and in the Busy Baby and higher classes, they have their own cots and they are not shared.  They can be wiped down easily though is needed.  I know both of my girls classes has a few extra cots in the rooms if ever needed.

  • My daycare changes the sheet and wipes down the matresses everyday.

  • I would definitely ask. My center - each child's crib is labeled with their name. Parents provide sheets and blankets and we take them home to wash at the end of the week.
