When did you start putting shoes on your DC

S/o winter...Holly has gone barefoot pretty much all summer--to daycare, and just in general. Before that, since she was itty bitty, she just wore socks. I've put shoes on her before, for a photo op, but that's really it. I don't really even have any shoes for her, except for a couple of pairs I got at a consignment sale. I don't even really know how the sizing works. The ones I bought are size 3's, and they're still a little too big.

When did your DC consistently wear shoes? Isn't it better for their feet to not wear shoes while they're learning to walk? I was just curious. Because man, shoes for older babies/toddlers are CUTE! Smile

Re: When did you start putting shoes on your DC

  • We still haven't really put shoes on Maddie. I've tried a couple of times, but she becomes obsessed with them as soon as I put them on- she just wants to get them off and eat them. So I do have a couple of pairs for her to wear this fall/winter, we'll see how it goes!

  • Nate started wearing them all the time when he moved up to the toddler room in daycare.  They require shoes.  When we're home, I don't put shoes on him unless we're going somewhere and I know he's going to want to walk.  Or if we're going outside & he's going to be walking around outside.

  • Just a few weeks ago, when he started walking. He had a day or so of being obsessed with them, but he got over it and is fine now. We only wear shoes outside of the house though :-) (back to lurking during class..,)

  • DD wore the Target brand of Robeez when she was about 6 months. They are more like slippers. She would always pull her socks off but couldn't seem to get those off.
  • I started to put those soft crib shoes on Samantha when she was learning to walk.  She started to walk during the winter so they also helped to hold on her socks which she would remove and ditch the moment I wasn't looking.  They are really soft so she could feel the ground but protected her feet from the cold floors.
  • I started putting shoes on Natalie when it got cold out but only when we went outside.  when she was playing at home, she only had socks on.  She only wears sandles now if she's going outside or if we're going somewhere.  She barefoot at home.

EDIT - Natalie's starter shoes last winter were also Robeez.

  • Eli mostly wore Robeez when it started getting cooler, until he started the toddler class at daycare.  They go outside everyday, so he had to wear "real" shoes.  Barefoot is best for babies learning to walk, and Robeez are a good solution for cooler weather.  And at home we let him wear them outside too, but they wouldn't at school.  Robeez are sized by age, so it's a little easier.  Target makes good knock offs.  Eli had really tiny feet though, so even the ages weren't right for him.

  • I got three pairs of Pedipeds when they were buy 2 get 1 free sometime last year.  She wore those last winter and through her learning to walk and walking full time in late January.  Then I finally made the first trip to Stride Rite in March to get her sandals and tennis shoes.  I'd defintiely check out Pedipeds, they are great!  And what she wore was the 12 to 18 months size.

  • I did not consistently put shoes on Ashley until she was taking steps and starting to walk. Since she was a late walker, this was around 18.5 months. Up until then, she just wore socks (since she was not in daycare, she did not need to wear shoes). I bought her first pair of shoes when she was around 17 months, but she rarely wore them until she started walking.
  • Just since he's been walking, I now put shoes on him whenever we leave the house, since it's likely he might be doing some walking while we're out.  I never bother with them in the house though - barefoot rocks! :)

  • Luke's never worn shoes yet! I don't know when I'll start trying them.
