Right now I have a honda pilot and as I was driving this morning I was laughing to myself that it might not be big enough (of course it will be but with a double stroller, two kids and groceries, we are totally not fitting)!
Also what kind of stroller do you have or will you have for the little ones? My DD will be 22 months when this munchkin arrives.
Re: What kind of car and double stroller do you have or will you have?
we bought the babytrend sit-n-stand double last week. i love the stroller so far (i've been pushing DS around the house in it) and i love all the seating options for the older child. DS will be 15 months when DD arrives. he'll have the option to sit in the front or the back (the infant carrier can snap into either seat), plus the back can be converted from a full reclinable (is that a word, lol) stroller seat to a bench to just the stand platform.
but i should reeeeeeaaaaaally check to see if it's gonna fit into the trunk of my focus....or the trunk of DH's civic.
We had a Graco Duo Glider that we rarely used.
We use our Sit and Stand all the time.
We drive Honda Accords.
It can be done!
I can fit groceries in the trunk with the double stroller in there.
If I have something big like toilet paper or paper towels they go in the front passenger seat.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
My boys are 22 months apart.
We drive a Subaru Outback and a Ford Expedition.
We have the Bumbleride Indie Twin stroller.
DD -- 5YO
DS -- 3YO
We have a minivan (and I still don't think it's big enough for 3 kids and a large dog).
We have a Graco Duoglider that I love (DD was 27 months when DS was born) that we will use again this time around. I'm also thinking of adding a buggy board to the back for trips alone with all 3 kids.
(m/c 1.17.07, m/c 5.15.07)
DS - 03.15.08
DD2 - 12.03.09
DD3 - 3.28.11
I drive a Grand Caravan minivan which I totally love. I got it when my older DD was a few months old. I drove a Trailblazer before that but found that it was tall and hard for me to lift the infant seat into. DH kept that for another year or two and then decided we didn't need 2 big cars so he now drives a Ford Focus which he really likes but it gets squishy when we use his car with all of us.
We had a hand me down Graco double stroller that I hated. It was big and bulky and heavy.
Honda CR-Vs
18m apart
2 Britax Marathons both RF.
P&T Sport.
I have a Ford Explorer....probably the same size as the Pilot. I have a P&T double.
Here are some pics.....
3 across the back
Back of the car (the diaper bag was on the passenger side up front with me, but there's plenty of room for the stroller, diaper bag, and a big grocery store trip!
How I get around. Sometimes, I wear DD3, but sometimes that's not possible (if it's a pedi visit and I need to be free to hold one of the older girls).
I think the Pilot will be fine since my Explorer is fine with 3 kids, the stroller, and big trips to BJs to buy 3 boxes of diapers. The ONLY thing I'll say is that my DD1 was RF until we moved her to the middle. I have her in a Radian and it's tall. When it was RF in the middle, I couldn't move the driver's seat back enough to be comfortable (I'm almost 6ft tall). We flipped her FF at 23mo.
Other than that, you should be totally fine!
Edit....damn picture sizing....ah, well....
I'll definitely do the same this time. With #3 on the way we'll have to use the third row seating and I'll only have room for the umbrella stroller.
We broke down and bought a minivan, LOVE it, NEVER would have thought that I would get one. We really didn't "need" it but we couldn't keep DS comfortably RFing in the Marathon and DD in the Graco Safeseat without DH having to compromise how far up the seat was, while he was driving. (He is tall). Plus we are thinking that there will be a DC #3 eventually and with kids staying in car seats forever nowadays, it will last for years to come! We also live Out of town from family and they will fly here to vist and we can cart them around too!
We have a Baby Jogger City Classic, which would have fit in our CR-V easily.
DS 3.12.08
DD 7.11.09
DD 8.01.13
We drive a VW Jetta and a Kia Optima
We have 2 RF Britax carseats (one on each side)
We use a Bumbleride Indie Twin, which I know fits in the Kia, but we've yet to try the VW. If we go shopping, we put the groceries/bags to the sides of the stroller, and anything that doesn't fit in the trunk goes in the floorboards under the carseats.
