Perhaps in their world grandmothers are our age. It could biologically happen. It's still really, really stupid to make that assumption though. I guess this tells you something about the life experience, dare I assume, socioeconomic status of those girls.
it also doesn't "help" that dd looks completely asian. dh is korean and those are some strong genes. tall, blonde, "older" woman could not possibly be the mother. geez.
2 infertiles' journey to 2 pink lines (and a baby girl) "our IF story"
I"m sorry that stinks! I have not had that happen but had some people look suprised that I had a 2year old I think because of my age. They were already a granma and probably around my age!
Your baby is beautiful! I love the picture in the tub!
When my boys were in the NICU, my friend came to visit them and one of the nurses goes..oh. I see you brought Grandma today. My friend is 42 and looks about 30. Blonde, cute, petite...soooo NOT like a grandma. We were both mortified. The things people say...
OMG that is horrible and I have no clue how I would react. Granted, I know its totally possible. I graduated with a couple that had a baby when were in 10th grade and she is now 22, they also have an 18 year old and then waited a long time and have 2 little boys that around 4-6. She could be a grandma sometime soon which is so scary to think. I have many friends who have kids that are in their teens now and mine are 1 and 3!!!
Nope, I've had the opposite happen. DD called me "grandma" at the park yesterday and 3 different women told me there was no way I could be a grandma. Actually, if I'd had DD at an early age, I could be a grandma.
And as far as DD calling me grandma--we were playing pretend. My dad has been in the hospital for 10 weeks so we've seen very little of my parents lately because my mom spends every day sitting with my dad. My DD wanted to pretend I was grandma and she was sick so that grandma (me) would come visit her, too.
Sorry this happened, I would have not been happy. I have a girlfriend who's 26 and several times now I have been mistaken for her mother, I'm almost 39.
Also my dd is 18 y/o, so it could be possible for me to be one, not that I'm ready anytime soon, she better at least finish college LOL
No, in fact someone told my that I looked too young to be married with children. OK, that didn't really happen, but I can dream.
I work in a school where many of the moms had their kids at fifteen, so I am probably the same age as their grandmas. Wouldn't soften the blow any, sorry they said that to you.
I've had this happen twice at the same grocery store. of course both checkout girls were about 16 years old. but still...
That sucks! Is it time to color your hair maybe? Okay, that was a joke. But some waitress thought I was my stepbrother's mom and it was only because I used to have a lot of grey.
People are morons.. but seriously, I believe it is because of the Korean thing.. people get confused. They should mind their own business.
I won a basket at my high school reunion last week for having the youngest child ( 8 months) out of all the people there. Didn't hear that anyone was a grandma yet though... they probably didn't attend reunion, as I know some girls had babies in high school.
I am fighting the aging thing kicking and screaming. DH asked me a while back when I was going to let my hair go gray (I have been coloring it since I was 27) and I am not sure when I will be able to do that.
Also, as soon as I finish breastfeeding I am going back to getting Botox. That stuff is like the fountain of youth.
Not yet, but it's bound to happen. People used to think that my mom was my grandmother when I was a teen and in my 20's. She had me at 39. I'm prepared. I would hope, however, that once our kids are that old, older moms will be so commonplace the assumption will be that the kid is yours and not your grandchild.
Gosh no! That would put me over the edge.. usually people think I am 10 years younger than I am ; ) even though right now I feel quite old.. speaking of which going to take my nap now that my kids are down!

I've not had the grandma issue but DH is Filipino so I hear you on the genes. Can't tell you how many times I've been asked "where did you get her?" Oh, I picked her up in aisle 5.
Re: has anyone called you "grandma?"
Are you kidding?Good grief!
