Recommend your bottles

Hi Ladies,

I am starting to work on a registry and I am clueless at what bottles to get?  My friend recommended Dr. Browns and another recommended Avent.  Is there one your baby preferred over another?  I saw on one of the boards that they say to pick a few and then go from there.  Any suggestions?

I'm clueless!

Thanks!

Jenny

Re: Recommend your bottles

  • I would recommend Born Free Glass Bottles!  I love them.  I've heard from numerous people that the Dr. Brown bottles has too many pieces to put together.

  • I mostly BF but maybe 1-3x a week DS would get a bottle.  I used Evenflo glass bottles.  No bpa concerns, easy to clean and we never had an issue at all.
  • Congrats Jenny!!!  If you need a registry helper, let me know!  I loved going out to BRU and BBB.

I recommend the Playtex bottles with the liners.

  • I registered for one of each. I have heard avents leak easily, Dr browns have to many parts.... I have heard pros and cons for each so I got one of each and will decide what to buy more of when the baby gets here.

  • I use the Playtex drop-ins.  The liners do get to be a bit of a pain (mostly the cost), but the nicest thing is since the liners collapse, you don't have to worry about keeping everything tilted.  DS had problems with gas in the beginning and these bottles seemed to work best at preventing that.  Also, it's nice that DS can drink the bottle while sitting up- when he got a little older, he always wanted to hold his own bottle, but it takes some time before they learn how to tilt the bottle.  It saved frustration on his part and it was nice in the morning that he could drink a bottle while I got ready

J&R's suggestion is a good one!  Every baby seems to take to bottles differently, so get a couple of each and then decide.  Maybe just get the small bottles to begin with, then when you decide which brand you like, then get all the big bottles in that brand.

  • I am doing what the PP suggested and getting a few. I plan on being an EBF, but I did pick up a couple of Adiri Breastbottles for DH so he can do feedings and bond with our daughter early on (hopefully their claim that they are the most like the breast is true!) Good Luck!
  • We also use Born Free- so far, so good!  She loves them.  They told me in the NICU that preemies need rounded (not flat, like some of them are)nipples, so that was a concern for us.  The Born Free ones work great.
  • We are primarily using the Playtex drop-ins and we really like them. We just switched to them last week, and I am really happy with them.

I also liked the Born Free bottles, we have one and I am thinking about getting a few more.

HATED the Avent... it leaked every time I used it!

  • DD used Playtex VentAire bottles and they worked great!!!!  Never had to try any others.  I love the angle of the bottle, not a straight up bottle.

My friend tried it w/her DD when all else failed and it worked wonders for her too.

    GL!

  • We used Born Free. I loved them (my DD loved them, I guess). Looking ahead ... they have a trainer sippy cup spout/nipple that inserts into the regular bottle. It made the transition to regular sippy cups very easy for us.
