What did you eat B4 Glucose Screen?

Last time, I was told to fast.  This time, my doctor advised me to eat something in the morning but to go high protein and not to eat or drink anything but water for 2 hours prior to my appointment.  Just curious what you all did and if you passed.

I was considering eating an egg or two with cheese and maybe half a whole wheat english muffin (and maybe milk).

Re: What did you eat B4 Glucose Screen?

  • That sounds about right.  I really don't remember what I had, but I was told to avoid simple sugars meals like pancakes, waffles, etc....which I did and passed.

  • I would probably skip the muffin and milk.  I agree - stick to the high protein.  You could do eggs and bacon or sausage and water.
  • a plain bagel last time.

  • Half a muffin should be fine - if your body can't handle that then you'd probably fail anyways. I'd skip the milk or at least limit to only 8oz - it's a carb that is digested easily.

  • I was told not to eat anything after midnight, but if I get really hungry and faint, then I could have high protien, just nothing with carbs (sugar).  My appt is set at 8am, so I'm thinking I can make it without eating... sigh...

    Hope your appt goes well!

  • First screening - ate normal breakfast

Second screening - fasted (drank water only)

  • I had pancakes that morning with regular syrup. I know I know!! I didn't think about it when I did it LOL. I did pass though with no problems. My Dr. actually told me to eat (I can't remember if it was 1 or 2 hours prior) so the drink wouldn't make me sick. I'm leaning towards the 2 hours.

    GL on your test :)

  • I was told the same thing you were by your last doctor, but I got busy and didn't eat anything (of course, my appt was at 9:30 AM).   Big mistake ... I was sick as a dog after I drank all of that sugar drink.

I think what you're planning to eat sounds perfect.  You should be fine :-)  I think the big thing is not eating the couple of hours prior.

  • First time I fasted and had a morning appointment and passed with no problems.

Second time I had an afternoon appointment so I ate normally in the morning, had a salad with water at lunch and fasted a couple of hours before (probably a really bad mix but they said to eat normally) and I failed.

I'd try to get as early an appointment as possible, eat nothing or just proteins before and bring some proteins (peanut butter crackers or something) to eat as soon as you are done.  The 3 hr really sucked so a little dizzy before the 1hr would be worth it to me if I had to do it again.

  • My doc told me nothing after midnight.  Not even water.  I passed with flying colors even though I felt horrible and got very dizzy after drinking the sugar drink.
  • They just told me not to eat 2hrs before I drank the glucose.  They didn't say anything about what I could/couldn't eat before that.

  • I was told I can eat something light, just not sugary..fruit, cake, etc. That is for the 1 hr. if i have to do the 3 hour, then I have to fast.
