I have 2 friends that are FT SAHMs (no PT jobs, no volunteering except at their kids schools). I CANNOT for the life of me imagine what they do all day long. I would go bonkers, or over obsess about my kids and house.
No really, I would SAH any time if I could, but I would be volunteering at schools and other places. I would also watch Y&R everyday and try to clean my house.
Maybe it's because I am at work, but I could imagine doing it. I could actually clean the house and keep it that way, I'd work out, I'd volunteer at their schools and try to get really involved in the PTA, I'd put the kids in music/dance/martials arts lessons, and I'd lunch with my friends.
Yes, I plan to be. We will homeschool through elementary and by that point we will have a small family farm to take care of. Between taking care of a garden, animals, cleaning the house, canning food, laundry, etc. I will be working a full-time job at home.
I always find this question funny. Women used to SAH even when they didn't have children and were called homemakers. I could easily find enough to do at home to keep me busy all day long, but instead I rely on modern conveniences to do things and let my house fall apart instead
Oh and if I ever felt like I was being "lazy" I would volunteer or pick up a hobby that could make us some money - sewing, knitting, etc.
My plan is to go back to work when Kate is in Kindergarten. Hopefully I can find something that'll let me be home when the kids get home, though. My dh misses a lot b/c everything is "old news" by the time he gets home from work!

Sigh.
Never gonna happen.
Yes, this. I would absolutely die to have 6 hours a day to do what I wanted. I suppose it would get boring after awhile, but I can dream.

I don't SAH now, but I actually could see myself doing it later. I plan to have a few kids and think I will be needed to drive them back and forth to different sports and activities after school. I think finding a nanny/chauffer will be harder when they are older than it is now. I would definitely be involved in community things during the day, though.

Heck no. It was purely a fluke that I am a SAHM now! DH was supposed to transfer us the heck out of DC this summer with the military and it didn't happen. I thought I would just have a 6 month maternity leave. Now, it is going to be an 18 month ordeal. I am looking forward to getting back to work.
I would! I want to be at home when the kids get off the bus...Or pick them up:) BUT, I'm sure by the time I'm finished having kids and getting the last one off to kindergarten, I may feel differently. I might be really ready to get out of the house!
Yes, or work with hours that let me be home with them after school. I really don't like hte idea of the kids having to go to day care after a long school day. I'd like them to be able to come home/be in activities.
Re: would you be a SAHM after your kids are in school?
Heck yeah. Cocktail hour would start at 10 am.

I'm with you. But school isn't the whole day, so it's like a big, long break to get things done before picking the kids up. I guess.
Also, is your siggy badge about not getting pregnant? B/c pregnancy has truly become an epidemic around here, too!!
