As most of you know, Marino goes to a daycare for medically fragile children. Some of the children have more medical issues than others (Marino probably requires the least amount of medical care). He has a friend there who has been in his room since he started in Dec. The little boy has Downs' but he also has CP (a rare combination) and he has a heart condition requiring a pacemaker. He loves Marino and Marino is one of the few people he smiles at, coos at, etc. Well, Marino moved to the big kids room in July but they didn't move the friend, since he had just had surgery to move his pacemaker and needed extra care.
I went into the other room 2 weeks ago b/c I hadn't seen the friend or the mother in a month and they told me there was a medical issue but they couldn't give details. I called the mom today and found out he has leukemia. I'm at work trying not to cry. I cannot imagine what else this poor boy can have to deal with in such a short life. He is only 16 months old and is undergoing chemo. Why does this happen?
Re: Life is so unfair sometimes...
Oh man. I can't even imagine. How sad. I'll be keeping his family in my thoughts and prayers.
oh my gosh. How horrible.. you just wonder how much bad luck a person can have.. then you don't want to wonder for fear of finding out the answer.
