Life is so unfair sometimes...

As most of you know, Marino goes to a daycare for medically fragile children. Some of the children have more medical issues than others (Marino probably requires the least amount of medical care). He has a friend there who has been in his room since he started in Dec. The little boy has Downs' but he also has CP (a rare combination) and he has a heart condition requiring a pacemaker. He loves Marino and Marino is one of the few people he smiles at, coos at, etc. Well, Marino moved to the big kids room in July but they didn't move the friend, since he had just had surgery to move his pacemaker and needed extra care.

I went into the other room 2 weeks ago b/c I hadn't seen the friend or the mother in a month and they told me there was a medical issue but they couldn't give details. I called the mom today and found out he has leukemia. I'm at work trying not to cry. I cannot imagine what else this poor boy can have to deal with in such a short life. He is only 16 months old and is undergoing chemo. Why does this happen?

  • Oh man.  I can't even imagine.   How sad.    I'll be keeping his family in my thoughts and prayers.

  • Seriously, whenever I get where I'm going and I meet my Maker, I have some major bones to pick with him/her.  One of those being, why do innocent babies have to suffer so?  Nothing makes me more mad and sad at the same time than stories of babies going through crap like that.  ::sigh::
  • That is tragic and unfair.

  • So so sad!  Prayers to the little guy.
  • oh my gosh. How horrible.. you just wonder how much bad luck a person can have.. then you don't want to wonder for fear of finding out the answer.

  • Oh god, I am so sorry.  Maybe, since it's likely that Marino couldn't visit for a play date (he's probably in quarantine with a lower/no immune system) you could make a little video or take pictures of Marino for him and send him a little play or care package.
