off the baby's items? She hasn't shown any interest in getting in his crib, stroller, car seat, or pnp until recently..I've heard you can lay a peice of foil in whatever you are trying to keep the cat from getting into (i guess the sound is supposed to scare the cat?) Has anyone tried this?
Re: Cat owners: Have you tried foil to keep the cat
I tried a grocery sack and it didn't work. He just laid on it. My cat is very strange, though.
Definitely try it on one item before wasting a ton of foil.
Is it possible for you to just keep the LO's things in a nursery with the door closed? We go in there once a day and the cats can explore and sniff around. Every time they try to jump in the crib they get scolded. Foil didnt work and ended up just sort of seeming cruel b/c it scared them at first but they could just move it to the side.
Once LO comes the cats will likely hide and either be scared of LO or pout.
It works because it's slippery and they like to be stable. We don't have inside cats, but my IL's have 9 inside cats and have to do this all the time.
That would work. They aren't supposed to like the texture of the foil; if you lay it out without smoothing it. Bubble wrap or duct tape sticky side up would work too. The tape can get stuck to things though. Both foil and tape worked to train mine about the kitchen counter.
dude- my cat tries to eat foil so yeeeeah- no go.
i didn't want to lay out the foil & come home to a dead cat- but for normal cats i'm pretty sure it works.
look at the birds | bless this food
Yeah. The tin foil worked for me. The baby's crib has been tinfoled for about a month now. I tapped on the tinfoil when the cats were in the room and they scattered.
I also hung pieces of tin foil on the sides of the pack in play so they wouldn't scratch at the netting on the sides and they completely avoid it now. It looks crazy but it works.
good luck. Hope it works for you too.
It worked for one of our cats. Another one - not so much, but she will always choose to sit on plastic/paper/in a box/etc. when given the chance.
I've also heard balloons will work. I haven't tried that. I'm thinking a baby will work.
I didn't have to. Our cat jumped in the crib when I first set it up but hasn't shown any interest in it yet. Beneath the crib, though, that's another matter!
The changing pad is her favorite baby item -- she thinks it's just a bigger cat bed. I keep a towel on it to control the cat hair and figure that once an actual baby has claimed it, she'll either leave it alone or I'll end up shoving her aside to change diapers.
This. Harry & George Kittens are bizarre. if it makes a lot of noise they want to play with it. Foil, paper, bags, water... doesn't matter. We don't have our crib yet so I'm not sure if they will want to be in it. I kind of figure that the baby is going to grow up with cats so I'm not that concerned about it.
