Baby Showers

Prize ideas?

Hi ladies!

My sister's shower is next weekend (Sept. 12) and all of the sudden I'm realizing that I've got some things to do.  It's being held at an inn/restaurant, so we're not going to do a bunch of games (not a game fan anyway).  We will have one game, Baby Bingo.  What would be a good prize for the winner?  I want to stay away from gift cards, because we have people coming from all over the place and they may or may not be able to use the card, depending on the location.

Should I have more than one prize (in case of a tie)?  Any ideas are appreciated.  TIA!

  • You can probably google baby shower prizes and get a lot of ideas there.
  • If you want the bingo game to go on for a while, multiple prizes are best.  Otherwise, as soon as someone wins, you tend to lose interest of the crowd (from prior experience).  Did you think of scratch off lottery tickets??  They're inexpensive and you can get multiple.  Otherwise I think purse size hand lotions are nice perhaps from Bath & Body Works.  If you just want a limited amount of winners, you can say FIRST prize - Bingo in any direction, SECOND prize - 4 corners, THIRD prize - X through the middle of the card, FOURTH prize - full board.  Hope this helps!
  • I like your idea Kerri-Ann!  It's a group of about 30, and as much as my sister probably wants them distracted, I would like for people to remain interested as long as possible.  Once people get there and everyone figures out what they want to eat, I would like for people to have a chance just to chat and have my sister and her DH mingle.  Then, for the Bingo game, I can have several prizes to extend the game a bit more.  I like that...thanks!

  • bingo was the only game we had at a shower i hosted a month ago. there were 20 people there and i had four gift bags for four winners. that way the people keep playing. each gift bag contained about $4 worth of gifts from Michael's dollar bins - magnetic note pads, candles, bath salt, note cards, etc... yeah it's cheap but it's better than nothing and it's not like they all didn't eat and get a favor, too.
  • Yes you should have more than one prize for each way to bingo because you might get a tie or two.  Also, if you plan for the bingo game to last longer do not have the guests fill out their own cards because they will just put down what they gave in a row and there is an instant bingo as soon as their gift is opened (if they gave more than one item).  I saw this happen at one shower I went to.  I had given multiple things (onsies, dress, socks, bib, etc) and could have had a bingo immediately since she opened mine first but I only put down one item I brought.  You can find bingo cards already made up or make it up yourself.  As for pirzes, edible ones are good as well as scratch off lottery tickets.  I do like the gift card idea though and even though they live in other areas most places have McDonalds/Subway/Starbucks, etc.
  • We are putting together gift baskets as prizes.  There will be a theme to each basket - like a spa theme, chocolate-lovers theme, baking, etc.  They seem to be a big hit at the bridal showers we put on.
  • I went to a baby shower where the prizes were baby bottles filled with candy, like lifesavers or M&Ms. ?I thought that was really cute. ?Scratch offs a cute idea too. And I LOVE the idea of small lotions or soaps.?

Personally, I HATE candles. I have SO MANY of them in my apartment!!!!!?

  • If gift cards are still being considered, why not get the AMEX or VISA ones that can be used anywhere?
