My boys have their first nicu follow up in a few weeks (5 monhts actual, 7 adjusted). It should really be 4 monhts but we were. away...anyway, I'm a little nervous. What kind of of things do they ask? Who is usually there? Stupid question, but I bring the boys with me right? I just don't want to hear bad news although I think we are doing ok but you never know....
TIA!

Re: What to expect at NICU follow up?
i totally know how you feel. DS is doing very well, but i was so scared there was something we were missing.
our follow-up (at 6m adjusted) wasn't as comprehensive as some, but i'll tell you what we did. first we filled out a questionaire asking what he was doing. then we met with the physical therapist who spent about 15-20 minutes assessing him. then we weighed/measured. then we met with a nurse who went over the "other" stuff (sleeping, eating, health, etc). then we all got together and the nurse and PT presented to the neo who said we were doing really well and we were on our way.
we have to go back at 18m (we missed the cut-off for not going at all by 4 hours) and then there will be a speech and occupational therapist as well.
good luck!!!
my experience was pretty similar to the pp's.
Went in and met with a nurse who weighed and measured him, and asked a few questions.
Then we went off and "played" while OT & PT watched. During that time, they asked a LOT of questions about stuff he has or hasn't done, and made a lot of notes. Then we had a little wait, and one of the Neos came in and he asked some questions.
Then they gave me sort of a brief "this is where he stands." For Robbie, because he wasn't eating, the neo was WAY concerned and rushed us in for a feeding team eval, so we mostly discussed that..
They suggested he have PT (which was already started through EI anyway) and said they'd send us their report, which came in the mail a few weeks later.
