Preemies

Thank you for all the help

I know I've asked a lot of questions lately.  I wanted to thank everyone.  Sometimes I feel so alone in all this.  DH and I have gotten to know another couple in the NICU.  It's been nice supporting each other even though her twins held on two more weeks, still similar issues.  My son came out of his isolette today, my daughter is still in.  I'm happy to report her episodes have stopped since they restarted the caffeine (an extremely low dose like before, lowest possible and only for a few days) and the reflux has stopped which suprises us all.  Could also be her weight gain and just gaining out of it, who knows.  Both babies have been putting on an ounce a day since Friday with all the changes in formula and meds, etc.  I know we still have some way to go but it's nice seeing progress!

Thanks again ladies for all your help and support.

On a side note... I'm running low on energy.  I'm at the hospital 10 hours a day and tonight when I got home I literally feel so exhuasted I feel sick.  I had some hot tea, that helped but my body is ready to collapse.  I feel like I should stay home most of the day tomorrow but I feel bad.  I'm starting to bond more and more with the babies each day, they are taking a few bottles a day too and sucking them all down!  I love being part of it.  I guess I'll see how I feel tomorrow and maybe take the afternoon to have a nap.

Re: Thank you for all the help

  • Glad to hear all of the wonderful progress!!

But please get some rest - it will be better for your babies, honestly.  If you get so run down that you get sick, you won't be able to see them at all.  They need a healthy, rested mommy - especially when they are ready to come home!!  Believe me, I was just like you...til the nurses kept telling me to go home and rest and I really started losing it - I finally gave myself permission to go in later and come home earlier.  And guess what?  Carter did fine and we bonded just fine...so try not to feel guilty.  Yes, when they are home you will be wiith them 24/7..but the NICU isn't the same as at home.

  • Glad to hear that things are looking up!  Be sure to take care of yourself. You want to be healthy when your babies come home.  Do not feel guilty about taking time for yourself...you're doing it for them, too!
  • You have to rest... a well rested mom will be more beneficial to the babies, right!?!  Your body is telling you it needs the rest so allow it to rest.   I am so happy to hear they are doing so well!
