We had ours at home too - truth be told, I have a TON of friends who have had all of their LO's first bdays at home - or a parents house or close relative if their house didn't allow for the room. Unfortunately, being a Jersey native (from Central Jersey as well) I can't think of any place or have I been to a 1st bday anywhere around. November would be a tough time too - its not like you could go to a park or some other out door place and the only places indoors would be like Chuckie Cheese or something that is child friendly....assuming that you had other people with LO's that would be attending.

We did Hailey's at Little Gym and it was a hit. I really wanted to do an ice cream social at a house but we had just moved and my MIL refused to have it at her house. All the children enjoyed the gym playing.
We did ours at Gymboree Play & Music. One of our classmates was born the same day as DD, so we actually had a joint party which not only cut down on the costs for us, but was also one less party for everyone as we would have invited a lot of the same people. Plus, it was a good opportunity for our families to finally meet each other.

we had planned to have it in our backyard and when the whole month of June it rained we second guessed it and booked a function hall. Good thing because it down poured on his b-day this past Saturday. We didn;t have to pay a site fee just for the food so long as it was over $400.

Re: Where did you have your 1st bday party
our house, we had a bbq but June is def different than Nov. Maybe ask the next board up, they will have had more B-days under their belts.
We are having it at our house. Having 20 people , mostly familiy (and the friends across the street), only a few kids - again family or close friends.
I guess we are doing BBQ, basic family fun foods, that sort of thing.
