What is the closest NJ/MD beach?

We would like to get away to the beach this weekend, and usually OCMD or Wildwood, NJ are our beaches of choice. However, we don't want to spend that long in the car for a short getaway with DD, and a good boardwalk isn't as important of a factor anymore since DD turns into a pumpkin by 7:30.

Does anyone know what the closest beach options are to the central PA area? (We're actually in Southern York county near the MD border)

  • I don't know much about the NJ beaches, but you could consider Delaware. Lewes is a beautiful little town, and about 45-60 minutes north of OCMD. And the ocean is a great temp this time of year. And it's perfect for little ones since it's protected and there tiny waves. Also close to the shopping and dining in Rehoboth.

  • Thank you for this tip!!! I looked into it and I think we're going! Thanks! :)
  • I agree. Delaware would be closer than MD or NJ. Unless you do Southern Jersey like Point Pleasant (which is still about 3 hours)

  • Great! I hope you tell us all about it when you get back. We've done Bethany Beach, south of Rehoboth, but have said that we'd probably do Lewes next year, since that's the beach we prefer to take Adam to.
  • It's been a long time, but Cape Henlopen Park (I forget if it's state or national) in Lewes is great!  And Lewes is a cute town.  Have a great weekend!
