I really have no chance of having HIV and am filling out paperwork before my first office visit. It is asking about consenting to HIV testing - is there a reason I should have this test? Or should I just put no?
I said yes, just because you never, ever know what you've been exposed to. I haven't had a million partners or anything, always used protection and I've never done drugs, but you still never know. I figured if its for the baby's best interest, go for it. It's not just about me.
But it really has to be a personal preferrence. It doesn't cost extra if you have insurance, but they make you sign a consent form. I just figure they test you for all the other STDs you probably don't have, so why not?
I had it done when I had DD. I think the hospital I delivered in required it because the card I took in to check in had that I was not HIV positive and not positive for group B strep.

I had it done. I knew I probably didn't have it but I wanted to be sure for the baby. I figure if I knew I didn't have it then I didn't have anything to be worried or scared about.

I had it done for DD, but not this time. I guess I didn't see the need this time (or before really). Maybe I should have...but I don't feel guilty for not.

In the state of IL they require it. So if I didn't have a HIV test then I was going to have to fill out paper work.
So I say just do it.
