Advice: DD won't take milk

I have bought every sippy cup possibly and DD will only take a few sips and be done with it. It's only been 1 week since I started but I thought she wouldn't care like everything else. My Dr. said not to put the milk in the bottle because I am supposed to be transitioning her from both the bottle and formula. She's a few weeks past her first birthday. Any advice or help would be great! Thanks.

Re: Advice: DD won't take milk

  • Eh, I'm of the mindset that if your kiddo needs a bottle for a little bit longer, they need a bottle. Just don't put her to bed with one, and her teeth shouldn't rot out of her mouth :P

  • Warm the milk before you give it to her. DD will only take milk out of a sippy sometimes, other times she couldn't be bothered. She also still gets one 8oz bottle at night because that is the way she likes it. If your DD prefers it in a bottle still I say F what the Dr says and do what you feel is right

  • My DD won't take a bottle at all and is boycotting milk.  I'm hoping someone suggest something new to try.  :)

I've tried ovaltine added to the milk, yogurt drink added, breastmilk added in varying proportions, formula added to it,warm milk, ice cold milk and room temperature.  I've tried 4 different sippys, 2 different bottles and even a medicine dropper.  Sigh.  MAybe one of those will work for you?  Good luck!

  • Does she get other dairy during the day? Maybe she doesn't need as much as you're giving? DS went down to 4 6oz cups at age one and is less than that now.

Also, feeding her before giving milk will make her less likely to want milk, she's likely to be too full.

    Good luck.

  • DItto PPs regarding use of a bottle. But if you really don't feel comfortable with that, can you get her calcium in other ways in the meantime? try yogurt drinks or soy milk or goat's milk.

  • We're pretty relaxed about bottles too, although DD only takes one a day (she is still BF).  But I will say that a few months ago, she wouldn't touch milk in a sippy- she'd spit out the milk, throw the sippy, you name it.  I decided to try it again last week, and all of a sudden she looooves milk out of the sippy.  So even if you don't do anything at all, she will eventually drink milk out of a sippy!
