Babies: 9 - 12 Months

I seriously do not understand extended BFing

to the point that the child is in school. I mean, by that point, how do you make the decision to stop?  When the child hits puberty?  And by then, that little boy may only look at breasts as a food source and not in a sexual manner like his peers.  I'm all for BFing of course, but I really do not understand taking it to that level.  At some point you have to think the action is more for the mom's need to feel needed rather than the child's nourishment.  Give the kid a happy meal for goodness sake!

  • I find extended breastfeeding at that age creepy.  Honestly, don't flame me here, but I think it is creepy to see a 2 year old doing it.  But I guess to each their own, if someone wants to do that it is their perrogative.  I'm all for BF'ing, but something about a kid that can walk and talk just living the shirt up and having at it bugs me.

  • I agree that letting them actually nurse is kind of creepy.  But I would pump and give them breastmilk forever if I could.  It's good for them.

That is completely different, AW.  Pumping I can get behind if you're willing to strap a pump to your boobs until your kid is goodness knows how old, but nursing that long is just.....  I don't know...  creepy!!

Are you going to pump forever and give them breastmilk in HS??  I'm sorry, I had to ask.

I mean seriously when is enough, enough???  Can you imagine a 16 year old walking in and grabbing a bottle of breastmilk?  Hey mom, can you pump, I'm out of breastmilk.

    LOL

I probably wouldn't because I can't wait to stop pumping, but I don't see a problem with other people doing it if they choose to.

It is CRAZY to me to think that somehow drinking the breastmilk of a mother cow at 16 is somehow less gross than drinking the breastmilk of a human.

Do you see how silly that sounds?

yes one thanksgiving she went in the bedroom to nurse.

ok ok i did not see "the latch" but it was stated that she was going to nurse her DD in the other room.

  • Don't babies actually loose the enzyme to digest milk by age 3?  So there is no reason for it after that.  I think a lot of the rest of the world will BF until that age so I think here in the US we are a little squeemish about it but after that age it does seem weird!
