Yes. She's known them since right before her second birthday. All kids are different, so I don't think it really means anything.

at 2.5 she was struggling she knew the names of the colors but had a hard time saying the correct color.

Now that she's 10 days shy of her 3rd birthday she knows her basic colors 95% of the time. But thats because her EI team and now her special ed teacher really works hard with her on that.

She knows her colors, some numbers, some shapes, and she thinks it is a,b,c,q, no matter how often I tell her a,b,c,d!

DD learned hers shortly before she turned 2. It was one thing she was interested in. She didn't care about letters or numbers at all at that point.

at like 20 months. (some at 18!) She is color obsessed, though...crayons are her favorite toy (she pronounces green, "gween," and red, "wed," though!!)

Yes. He's been able to identify them by pointing to each one for several months and has been able to verbally identify them for a month or two (though if he's distracted he sometimes gives a totally random answer).

Yes, he could. He's still confused by many shapes, though (oval, bizarrely, is the only one he gets right consistently), and some of his letters and numbers.

Yes - he knew them fairly early (20 months?) because he became obsessed with them. Colors are one of those things that have a very broad range for "normal" and I think are mostly due to when kids become interested.

Kate knew the basic colors around 17 months and the harder ones (pink, grey, etc) by about 18 months. All before she started walking, so she had plenty of time to sit around learning colors

Julia has known hers since April, so like 1.5, but every kid is different. I remember being in preschool with kids who didn't know them yet.

it's funny--if I ask S to "bring the pink ball" or "get your green shoes"--she will, but if I ask her "what color is ________". she usually will say blue or pink. maybe it's just her language delay. receptively she's fine and understands everything. idk

DD will be 22 months and she knows blue, pink, and yellow. She just started showing an interest in colors and shapes.

Yes, she learned them shortly before she turned two, but she was REALLY interested in colors at that time. She is 2.5 now and still only knows a couple of letters and only numbers 1 and 2. She just isn't as interested in numbers and letters right now.

Yes, but she learned them at around 20 months. Red, green, blue, yellow, pink, purple, orange, brown, black, white, and grey by the time she was 21 months. I tried to teach her peach, but she wasn't going for it.

Yes, but mostly thanks to DH because he is constantly asking him what color something is. Mostly cars!

G does the same thing. He only gets it right like 50% of the time. He always mixes up red and green.

What Minna's said was interesting. I think DS knows them better than he can answer the question too. He knows most of them but can be inconsistent so I would not really say he KNOWS them. One day green is his favorite color and today he could not answer green when we were reading Eric Carlyle (sp) My First Colors Book...usually he knows blue, red, yellow, brown, white, pink and green but he can get green and blue confused but they are similar so that is very normal. He NEVER knows orange. He can say his alphabet but he usually skips J and K and he can count to 15 but he usually skips 5 and 7 and adds a number called "orteen" between 14 and 15. He only recognizes A and sometimes B. I need to work on it more but I just do not feel pressure since he is still 2.
