toy cars at daycare

DD started back to daycare today after the summer off.  She is in the "older" room which is basically 2 year olds.  I was kind of surprised they had toy cars like matchbox type in the room.  I said something to the girl in the room about the fact she might chew on it.  She doesn't chew on things as much but you get the point.  I am tempted to say something to the director tomorrow who already thinks I am a pain in the butt.

Re: toy cars at daycare

  • You could ask the director about it but our DS does ok with those kinds of cars.

  • If you are worried then let her know,  but DS loves his matchbox cars and has never chewed on them. I wouldn't worry about it, but I am also very relaxed about things like this.
  • Billy would be lost without his matchbox cars.  they ar ehis favorite - he's been laying with them since he was about 18 months.  I wouldn't worry about them - they're too big to choke on.

  • I would definitely say something.  Typical matchbox cars are not intended for under 3 -- says so right on all the boxes -- because the wheels or other small parts can come off.  So, those cars shouldn't even be in that room, IMO.  I have a 3.5 year old DS & a 18 month old DD -- and DS loves his cars.  DD plays with them sometimes, but I do have to watch her b/c she will try to put it in her mouth.  It only takes one time for your DD to try chewing on it & a piece pops off.  Not a risk I'd be willing to take.
  • Well, my son has played with Matchbox cars since he was about 1 year old.  And I don't know what he would do without them.  But at a DC, you are probably right to be concerned.  I would mention it to the director.
