1st Trimester

Twinges and cramps question.

By the time my first trimester is over my sanity will be gone and I've only just started.

Those who are under six weeks, do you feel cramps, heaviness, or twinges some days and some days hardly anything? I've been having those feelings and today nothing really and it's making me worry. What? Now I want cramps? My body cannot win with me I'm telling you.Confused

Re: Twinges and cramps question.

  • Mine came and went in the first few weeks with one day around 6 weeks with terrible cramping all day long.  They have started to go away for me lately, but every now and then one will come but much lighter than when I was 4-6 weeks.

  • Yes, my cramping/twinges are completely unpredictable! One day I have them all day long and swear AF is going to show up and the next they are non existent.
  • I have felt twinges and very very light cramps (nowhere near my period cramps), but not all of the time and not every day.

  • Yes.  Sometimes I feel 'em, sometimes I don't.

  • Yes.  They worry me and give my comfort all at the same time.  I haven't had a day when I didn't have at least one cramp, but they are just every once in awhile.  I like to think it's the baby demanding more room and things doing whatever they need to do.

From the research I've done you don't have to worry unless it is occuring with spotting or is severe pain.....can anybody confirm this?

  • Don't feel bad. I felt the same way you did. Pregnancy makes me paranoid and obsessive, I tell you. :)

Cramps, twinges, heaviness ... all normal. Your uterus is stretching out. You should only be concerned if the cramps are severe (like, doubled over in pain) and/or accompanied by spotting or bleeding.

Symptoms come and go. Some days you'll feel completely normal, then you'll feel miserable. Remember - symptoms are not an indicator of a healthy pregnancy. I felt "normal" for the majority of my first trimester. Then, at weeks 10 1/2 through 11 1/2, I was sick as a dog. Now ... I'm back to feeling normal. It's like my body can't make up it's mind. :)

  • HI!  We have the same due date, since we are both 3w6d.  What you describe is perfectly normal.  H&H 9mo.

  • Well that's a relief. If only there was some sort of standard indicator that let's you know the baby is in there and it's fine. I don't think I'll be comfortable until I have my first ultrasound and hear the heartbeat.

  • Yep, I've been crampy off and on, and last night my back was really giving my crampy issues - not severe pain, just uncomfortable. It's nice to know it's normal, and almost a little reassuring to have some symptoms :)
  • Yup off and on. It's normal. I had them with my last pregnancy too. I believe its just your uterus growing and stretching to accomodate the baby. It was my first clue I was pregnant this time around...cramping with no period, better take a HPT!

  • I've been getting them too, mainly on my right side.  It almost feels like the discomfort I get when I have cysts on my ovaries or somthing.  And on occassion I'll get a cramp, but nothing too major, just uncomfortable.  Right now the ovary thing is what i'm getting.

  • bbetson-my doc said the exact same thing.  I was asking him about cramping last week and he basically said cramping is okay, light bleeding is okay (in your first tri), but bleeding and cramping together is not okay!

  • I had them my first week after BFP then they went away. With no other signs for two weeks then the nausea set in. It's very nerve racking; hang in there.  H&H 9 months!

  • I have them too, it feels like I am going to get my period and I get all nervous and keep checking! I'm getting used to it now though and since I now know you are supposed to feel that, I don't mind them so much
