A few months ago, I kept getting dizzy when I stood up. I figured it was probably my blood pressure meds, so I went to my primary care doctor. She basically blew me off, saying it was the meds, but I needed the medicine, so there way nothing that could be done.
I asked my endocrinologist about the dizziness and she immediately told me it was probably the meds and then my blood pressure was getting too low when I stood up. She adjusted the dosage, which helped, and ordered blood tests. The blood tests show that I am anemic, which is part of the reason I am dizzy.
Anyway, I am really pissed at the primary care doctor. This isn't the first time she's blown me off (last time was pink eye that she said "wasn't bad enough for antibiotics." I ended up in the emergency room 4 days later will a double eye infection and a double ear infection.) She should have at least adjusted my meds, and she should have run blood tests to make sure there wasn't another problem. I was planning on just finding another doctor and writing her a letter to tell her why. However, I just got a letter from her saying that she is leaving her practice and moving across the country.
Would you still write the letter? Part of me thinks she should know that she is doing a bad job. Switch to another doctor in the practice or find another practice all together?
Re: WWYD in this situation?
She sounds exactly our PCP and we are trying to find a new one. We are looking to leave the practice all together. She also owns her practice, so it wouldn't help to just switch Drs for us.
I would write a letter and let them know what was done for you and how simple the adjustments were.
I would not write the letter if you plan to stay in the same practice (you'll get talked about by the office staff). Not that it is a big deal...but it may make a difference as far as getting in for an appointment in a timely fashion, etc.
I would stay in the practice if 1) you liked another doctor there and/or 2) the location is good for you.
Not to cause an alarm or anything since you already know what was causing your dizziness...but a friend of mine was just saying her step-DD was having dizziness and they found a benign brain tumor! Your PCP should have checked out things. I would have requested meds if she diagnosed you with pink eye (it rarely gets better on it's own!). There really is no such thing as "it's not bad enough". Pink eye is pink eye, strep is strep, etc.
Yeah, I did request antibiotics. I get pink eye regularly in the winter and it always leads to an ear infection if not treated soon enough. The doctor said that most pink eye is viral, not bacterial (true) and that the virus would just run it's course, to antibiotics weren't warranted.
