My mom and I bought the pattern 2 years ago. It is by Ann Norling. It is called Fruit Cap Baby Pattern. You can buy it for about $5. It has been totally worth the $5! It is the same pattern for that strawberry hat so I have used it a lot.
The hardest part about making the hat is finding orange yarn! Tell her to look ASAP because it tends to sell quickly in the fall. I bought my yarn at a local yarn shop not Michael's or AC Moore. Please post pictures of J in the hat!!
I will definitely post pics of him in the hat. MIL is a prolific knitter & has more yarn that you could even begin to fathom. Seriously - she has trunks & big baskets just full of yarn! However, on the off chance she doesn't have orange I'll tell her to look quickly. There is a fabulous yarn shop that she LOVES in Burnsville (if you're ever up that way).

Hope that helps!
