Is there a name for this??

I know heartburn & indigestion are a normal thing for pregnancy, and I even had it pretty bad during my first pregnancy, but this is just awful. I constantly have the worst heartburn of my life, even if I don't eat anything. It makes me feel super sick to my stomach so I can't even eat!! I've tried Gaviscon, Tums, Rolaids, Mylanta, Maalox, and absolutely nothing helps!! Is this some sort of pregnancy disorder-type thing like you can get i.e. preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, etc? Or just extra-bad heartburn? Someone help me!!!!

  • I don't know, but I am eager to read responses! My chest feels like it is melting from the inside. It was so bad it was causing me to vomit earlier today!

  • It used to keep me up nights with my first.  Try walking around and SLOWLY drinking water.

  • I can't stomach the idea of milk, but milkshakes and ice cream have done the trick for me!

Also tea - orange tea. It sounds counter-intuitive because there's citrus in it, but it's worked. I don't question it.

  • UGH I had THE worst heartburn too - I actually still do but not as bad for some reason.  When it was bad, my throat actually hurt down near my larynx and it hurt to swallow.
  • I have chronic heartburn and reflux, which actually has been doing better since getting pregnant.  I expected it to be tons worse, feel very grateful that it's under control - at least for now.  I take the prescription dose of Zantac (ranitidine is the generic name) 150 mg. twice daily - it makes a big difference.  Talk to your MD about your options.  Good luck, hope you're feeling better soon.
  • I would be a burning pile of acid if it wasn't for my Prilosec!
