Special Needs

**lincn**

My DD has Williams Syndrome - diagnosed just after birth due to (now very mild) facial features, some cardiac issues (but not SVAS, the "typical" WS heart issue), and small size.  She's now 9 months and doing very well, starting to crawl, does great with solids, doesn't seem sensitive to noise, has only mild pulmonary valvar stenosis - in other words, she probably wouldn't be diagnosed now.  She's a bit later than most kids on her milestones, but everything has still been within the typical range.  Eg - We're just starting crawling a few feet at a time.  All the specialists we've seen have been absolutely amazed that her pedi picked it up, but we confirmed through FISH analysis and yep - sure enough.  Oh, and she does have slightly high calcium levels.

So I guess what I'm saying is that it's a very wide spectrum.  If you want to shoot me an email I'm happy to tell you about our experience so far.  (I'm editing out my email and will try to pm you with it, like akimbo did - good call there)

Good luck!  Our daughter is beautiful and lovely and we adore her, and all the WS kids I've met have been very happy children.

  • Oh, and this is a terribly old picture in my sig, but you can see her cute little upturned nose...
  • Thanks so much.. Posts like yours help me to be hopeful. My DD is 11 mos.? My DD doesn't have a lot of the traditional symptoms - she was not low birth weight, she has met all of her developmental milestones on time if not early.?
We also have not noticed any noise sensitivities.? But she does have hypercalcemia and there does not appear to be any other reason.? She also has a slight upturned nose, and puffy eyes? as well as some of the other slight facial features.? We are also dealing with lack of weight gain in the past two months..?

My pedi is not sure what our next step is - we are waiting for some more tests from the Endocrinologist.??

Are your DD's pinkys turned inward as well?
