Travel System

How did you decide on yours? Which one?

They are so expensive and I am worried about making the wrong decision!

Re: Travel System

  • We're buying them separately but they work as a travel system. We are going with the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio car seat and the Peg Perego Aria Oh stroller.

  • We're getting the Graco-Deco.  I like it a lot.  I wish the colors were a little brighter, but I can deal with it.  We went to BRU and took all the travel systems off the shelf.  We spent a TON of time in that aisle.

We chose that one because the infant seat is up to 32 lbs.  You never know how big your baby is going to be.  The stroller pushes really nicely, too.  It turns well and folds up pretty decent.  It is heavy, but a lot of them are.

My best friend has the chico keyfit.  She loves it.  My ILs are getting the travel system since they found out my parents paid for the crib.  The Deco is a little over what they wanted to spend, but we had it picked before the offered.  Asking for the Chico would be out of the question for us.  It does have great safety specs!

  • We ultimately decided against one but we would have done a Chicco system. It has a great car seat and the stroller with it was a lot better than the one that comes with the Graco.
  • We went to Babies R Us and played with them.  DH loved the Bertini travel set.  We both liked how the carseat fit very snugly into the stroller compared to the others.  Plus we loved the design.  It also felt sturdier and made with a better fabric.  We went home and looked at online ratings and everyone seemed very happy with it so we went back after our big u/s and purchased it :)

  • We are getting the Chicco Keyfit system with the Corina Stroller. The car seat gets amazing reviews and the stroller was one of the nicer ones we tried at BRU. The Chicco is a little pricey, but it is cheaper than a lot of other "higher end" systems.
  • I actually decided against one based on talking w/moms who were at BRU and seeing my cousin struggle w/the weight/bulk of hers.  Instead we did an infant car seat (Snugride) and a Snap N Go stroller (for the 1st 6 mos);  then changed over to a convertible car seat and a regular stroller when DD could hold her head up.  After 6-7 mos they are too heavy to carry in the infant car seat attachment and since they can sit up they really get frustrated not being able to (in the infant carrier)--DD is a yr old and only 24 lbs so I laugh when new moms think they'll keep the baby in the carrier until 30-something pounds.  First of all, the baby will hate it and second you won't be able to carry it!

  • I personnally didn't want a travel system - a little too bulky for me. I went with the graco snugrider stroller for the infant seat and the peg perego aria. I chose the Aria because it is inbetween a umbrella and travel system sizewise and is only 10 pounds. We only use the Aria now (since DD was 5 months).

When choosing like pp said test them out at the store. Make sure it maneuvers good and you can open and collapse it easily with one hand. If you plan to have a second child you might want to pick a neutral color.

  • I wouldn't suggest getting a travel system.  Save your money for a really nice durable stroller that will last through toddlerhood and that you will probably like enough to use with a second child.  In the beginning, you can use a snap-n-go...super lightweight.

Also, though a higher weight limit on a carseat may seem like a great selling point, you will want to consider whether you will actually want to carry something that heavy anyhow.  I myself switched when my DS reached 18 lbs. because I couldn't carry it any longer.  I was happy I didn't spring for more than a 22 lb. carseat.  JMO though.  HTH!  =)

  • I am going to tell everyone what I was told numerous times and never listened to.  Don't ge a travel system.  I have the chicco travel system and I totally love the way it looks and love the car seat, I really don't like having such a bulky stroller.  It doesn't seem like much right now but when you are trying to run a quick errand the big bulky stroller is a pain.  I wish we had gotten a snap and go and then chosen a smaller stroller later on.  I really want a smaller stroller but it is not in the budget for now.

A side note, I was originally convinced that I wanted a carseat that would hold a heavier baby, and then someone said alot of babies outgrow the length long before the wieght.  This is true for me.  DS is 8 months and close to 30 inches and less than twenty pounds.  The max lenght is 29 inches on the chicco, not sure of others.  If you and DH are tall than this is definetly something to think about!

  • I think I've decided on a BOB revolution stroller and getting the infant seat attachment.  I don't think the big bulky system would suit me very well or allow me to go on the various terrains that we would use it on.
  • We decided against the travel system.  We're getting a Britax convertible carseat, because the infant seats are so heavy, and will be babywearing.  We registered for the Jeep Liberty stroller... great ratings, great price, sporty, but not too sporty.

  • I'm going against what seems to be the norm, and we got a travel system with DD and LOVE it!  We had a Graco.  It was the Vienna stroller (discontinued, but similar to the Passage or Alano) and the snugride carseat.  Our kids each used the carseat till over a year old.  DD would have been in it longer had DS not been born, but she used it till about a week before he was born.  DS is almost 2 and we still use the stroller and it's great.  It's held up so well, and will definitely work for another baby.  I loved having a travel system and I wouldn't change that if I went back and got a re-do.  The only one I really hated when we tested them out was the Graco Quattro Tour because it's really heavy and it barely fit in our trunk and we had a large trunk.
