Re: coffee

  • My doctor says that it is fine in moderation. I usually have a cup of coffee in the morning and a pop sometime throughout the day.

  • I drink one small/medium coffee (from DD or a Starbucks latte) per day, and that's it for caffeine. Both my RE and OB said caffeine is ok in moderation. All the studies about it are completely inconclusive.
  • It is hard to tell exactly how much caffeine is in a cup of coffee, so I don't drink any. But I am a coffee fanatic. It sucks smelling good coffee and not being able to drink it!

  • Too much of anything can be a bad thing. As long as you're not overdoing it, you and baby will be fine.

I was such a heavy coffee drinker pre-pregnancy (I used to work at a coffee shop), that my doctor told me not to cut it all out. Not only would I have major withdrawals, but the baby would be better off with a little caffeine versus the stress. So where I used to drink 6-8 cups of coffee a day, sometimes more, I don't even drink coffee once a week anymore. But I do still drink diet coke, and of course, I cannot cut out the chocolate. And those Starbucks Frappucino's provide a major energy boost at work.

  • I have a small latte occasionally.  Some days, I just need that extra boost to get through the day.  Plus I think of the calcium I'm getting from all the milk, since I don't otherwise consume much dairy.  My ob said it was ok in moderation.

  • I've only been drinking it occassionally lately.  I'm not used to the caffeine anymore and it makes me really jittery!

  • I have either coffee or 1 pop everyday...sometimes 2 if I'm feeling extra tired or if my headaches are really bad

  • My OB said it is fine in moderation, so I usually have a cup a day.
  • I'm studying for a huge exam so i have to have coffee. At the place I go, I have them do 1/2 decaf and 1/2 regular to make myself feel better yet wake me up
  • I loooooveeee coffee as long as it's loaded with cream and sugar and various coffee like drinks. :) I haven't had any since I found out I was pregnant. Mostly because I've been overly hot and even passed up the iced coffee since I've drastically cut down my caffeine intake. If I'm going to have caffeine I would much rather have the occassional amazing thing I like to call...Coca-Cola :) However my bff's husband decided I needed some coffee the other day, I drank it with just a little of some yummy pumpkin spice creamer and it made my world a better place. :)
  • I haven't had any at all. I had two M/C so I decided for my own metal health to cut out anything that could carry even a remote risk. I can't wait to go back to it, hopefully right after delivery of a healthy baby!
  • My doctor said it's fine in moderation, and that he actually recommended it when I have a migraine, since I can't take my usual migraine meds.

I've been ordering a half caf latte every once in awhile, and I have a soda here and there. Today, I was really bad (i.e. I had a migraine) and had both. But I also had about 100 oz of water today, so I'm not too worried about dehydration.

  • Initially I cut out all coffee but once I got a little further into my pregnancy, I really missed DD so I decided to get 1/2caf 1/2 decaf med iced coffee with milk only and its a nice thing to look forward to each and every friday Big Smile

  • I have one decaf coffee a day (decaf has about 1/3 of the caffeine as regular.)

  • I have a cup every morning then a Diet Coke sometime in the afternoon, and iced tea on occasion, did it all the way thru my first pregnancy.  Caffeine has been proven to cross the placenta but it has never been proven to cause any negative results.  It's fine in moderation.
  • I'm an iced coffee addict!  I've switched to mostly decaf and sometimes half-caf, and don't have it every day.

I was told 200 mg is okay and that guideline is most important in the 1st trimester.

  • I pretty much stopped drinking coffee during the first tri because it wasn't overly appealing. But a week or two into the 2nd tri I starting drinking it again. I really only drink half a cup to a whole cup in the morning. I drank it throughout my first pregnancy too (had an office job, it was hard to avoid).

  • I've been drinking one cup in the morning and one can of diet coke in the evening.  I did the same thing with my first pregnancy.  I wish I could cut back even more and I may try to cut out the diet coke.
  • During first tri I kept it to 1 coffee per week, and it was 1/2 caf 1/2 decaf.  It was a nice little Sunday morning treat.

But I started getting headaches in 2nd tri, and both my OB and neurologist (I have a seizure disorder) actually suggested I have a cup of coffee when I get headaches.  They said 2-4 cups per day is fine!  I didn't even drink that much pre-BFP.

So now I usually have a small cup in the mornings, and if I get a headache in the afternoons (rare, knock on wood) I'll have another one.  I still stick with the 1/2 caf, and it really does the trick on the headaches.

  • Sipping on a grande Pumpkin Spice Latte, listen to your OB then decide. Coffee keeps things moving for me. I have a cup every morning.

  • I still have my medium cup of dunkin Donuts every morning.  My OB said it was just fine.
