A friend of mine having her 1st baby registered for a potty training seat, training pants, and several other items that obviously are intended for toddlers and beyond. I thought it was super weird (I'll just buy that stuff when I need it) but maybe everyone else registers for that stuff too?
Re: Are you registering for stuff you won't need for 1+ yrs?
I did with my first and I'm so glad I did. Also, it gave people options who wanted to buy gifts.
We did. I wanted to partly because some of the stuff we registered for is super expensive (swing, pack-n-play, saucer, etc). I have some friends who want to give us stuff, but I know their tight financial situations. I don't want them to spend a lot! Another reason is that we are having 5 showers. They're all smaller, but I want to make sure there's choice when ppl go to get stuff off the registry. I hate going to a shower and not having a lot of choices on the registry.
I didn't, but that's because I had a very small registry and one small shower. On the other hand, I actually started using a potty chair just before a year - not to potty train, but just to get DS used to it. Some moms start using it even earlier than that. So it's not necessarily just for older toddlers. While it's hard to imagine when you're holding a newborn, it really is amazing how quickly those early stages go!
Similarly, I got a lot of food-related things when my son was born, even though I hadn't put them on my registry. Things like toddler bowls, bibs, first silverware sets, etc. DS started using those at just about the same time as the potty chair! We did EBF and delay solids some, so I guess we might have been a little later in using them than some others. But...it was nice to have them when we were ready for them.
I also got clothes through 18 month sizes. I just told my husband the other day that I was going to have to buy DS clothes this fall/winter for the first time! Up until now, we've pretty much had the sizes covered with gifts, with us just picking up a few things to fill in the gaps here and there.
Yes, that qualifies as weird and odd.
I should have bought them just to be funny! I told FI about it and he was like I will give you the money for whatever you need like that so you don't put it on our registry
