Indiana Babies

marleysmom

How is your friend's baby doing? I know the 1st week is the scariest. I've been thinking of them!

Re: marleysmom

  • i wish i knew! i'm trying to walk a fine line b/c i'm dying to know all the details but i also know they must be so overwhelmed. i don't want to smother them with emails/texts/phone calls, b/c i'm sure they're getting swamped. i remember you saying you couldn't possibly respond to everyone and tried your best to keep everyone updated when you could, so i'm trying to wait to see if she sends out an update. it's especially hard because she's at Women's at St. V's, where I'm doing my residency, so it's hard not to swing over there at lunch or after work or whatever.

we did see them saturday and took them brunch. Zoe was 1lb7oz but looked great and i was thrilled to be able to touch her little toes. the MD said they were actually going to go ahead and give her a trial off the vent over the weekend which is fantastic, but i don't know how long they were able to keep her off. all we heard today were that things were "going well" so that sounds good. i'm betting the reality of the situation is really setting in for them, but they are both really even-keeled people so hopefully they are hanging in there.

i may bounce more things off you as they come along!

  • Ok!  Actually we were in a really simlar situation. one of my friends works at St V and sometimes Women's - she's a pedi - and had done rotatins in the NICU.  We just talked up front about what was acceptable.  I told her she was welcome to stop by Andrew's cube if she was in the NICU.  It was nice having someone to talk to who understood the medical lingo, but, we didn't have time to call her to update her either. We sent her the updates everyone else got, but, she'd sit w/ me at the hospital sometimes. :) I'd just tell her that you're offering a listening ear, and leave it in her hands!

If they are trying off the vent, even if they have to go back on (not uncommon), then that's great news!! :) So tiny!

I'm so so happy to hear they had a girl.  They do so much better in general.
