TTC After a Loss

NTTCALR: Anyone here adopted?

I was adopted as a baby.  I had a patient last week who was giving her baby up for adoption and I was SO happy to be her nurse...I love sharing my story with them because it offers them hope and encouragment to hear from an adoptee's perspective how thankful I am to have been adopted and how grateful I am to my birthmom.  I wrote her a really long note before I went home and suggested this song to her when she struggles with thoughts of "did I do the right thing".  This songs describes *exactly* how I feel about my life:  I am SO blessed and my birthmom really did give me everything when she gave me away...

Plus I can relate to losing a baby...I know it's not the same thing, her baby is alive and will have a great life, but she will still experience this process as a loss, that's just how it works.  In a way I can feel her pain and I felt very close to her (however I did not share about my m/c's, I didn't think that would be appropriate).

Sorry...this was kinda a random thought.

  • I am adopted. I was given up at birth and adopted at 28 days old. I am so thankful that I was given up for adoption because I have had a fantastic life, a life that I would not have had if my biological parents had decided to keep me.

The only thing I have from my biological mom is a letter she wrote me 2 days after I was born explaining why she had given me up and things she was into and how her personality was. My parents gave it to me when I turned 18.

I'm glad you were able to help that lady in what will be the hardest decision she will ever have to make.

This is exactly how I feel!  I was adopted at 6 months old, my mom was 16 and tried to do the whole single teenage-mom thing but just couldn't do it.  She got married on my 2nd birthday and had 3 more kids all in a row (1 year apart).  Their lives have been 100x harder than mine.  She's been married 3 or 4 more times since then and moved almost every year.  I love them all, but I am just so thankful for the life I've had and the opportunities I've had that I know would not have happened had she not made the decision she did.  I'm supposed to see her again this weekend (we see each other ~every 2 years...it's not planned that way that's just how it works out).  I've never met my dad....he was 14 when I was born.

  • I had a closed adoption so I know nothing about my biological parents other than my bio dad was 19 and bio mom was 18.

I have looked into trying to find them but I'm just not in the right place in my life right now to do it.

  • thank you for posting this - and, while some may not agree, I think it is ttcal related - as adoption is a potential for some of us at some point in this journey. . .

My mother is adopted and I am thankful everyday that my grandparents chose her. That choice gave me my life!
