Name dilemma...opinions please!

We think we're set on the girls' first names:

Bailey & Blakely (I found the second in a name book and think eventually she will be called Blake for short)

Everything goes well when I reveal the names until I get to Blakely. At that point I get an, "Ohhhh, that's a mouthful!" Some of my family members (a.k.a. loud mouth aunts) have even expressed how awful they think the name Blakely is! I know, I know, we should go with what we love & we will; however, is Blakely really that bad???

Come on girls.....I want the TRUTH here :o). The real question is; will it work when she's 40.......

We've thought about changing Blake to Bella (or Isabella, although I'm not crazy about "Izzy").

Blakely kind of sounds like a made up name.  I like Blake, though.  If you think that's what you'll call her, just name her Blake.  It's cute and goes well with Bailey.  With Blakely it sounds like you were trying too hard to come up with two girl names that staretd with B and ended "ly" sounding.  But if you love it, stick with it!

That's kind of what I was thinking, but believe it or not Blakely is in the name book I have & Bailey isn't!? Strange. Thanks for the advice!!!

The thing about baby names is that you and your DH are the only ones that have to like them. You get full naming rights. But since you asked for opinions. I'm not a fan of Blakely. I'm also not a fan of twin names being too similar, and Bailey and Blakely are very similar. However I love the name Isabella, and I think Bella is a really pretty nickname for Isabella, so if it was up to me, I'd change it. But it's not, and if you are happy with it, stick with it.

My issue with it - since you asked - is that Bailey and Blakely have a very similar sound. I think that there could be lots of confusion later. Things that are typed wrong, phone calls, etc. It will be hard enough sharing a birthday - insurance companies often screw up twin billing. It will be even more challenging if the names of each are so alike.

But you are the one naming these kids - so do what you like :)

I like both names but just not together - together, imo, it's a mouthful.

Bailey & Blakely sound like the same name, and I amalso just not fond of Blakely.

Blake is a great name - goes nicely with Bailey!

Blakely also sounds made up to me. I like Bella.   Blake is cute too.

It is kind of a mouthful, especially when you pair it with Bailey.  It's almost a tongue-twister.  Why not just call her Blake if you want that as the nickname?

True; we could even do Blake Lei (Lei being my mom's name & my middle name). That way we can avoid the original tounge twister, but we're not loosing our original thought.

I think you need to do what YOU like and not ask anyone else about it.  We did not tell anyone the names we had picked out for all 3 of our kids b/c we did not want to hear comments.... Someone will always hate the name you pick- but if the baby is born and named they won't tell you (usually!) but if it's before the baby is born they'll give their opinion- and who wants that??

Do what you like - nobody else's opinion matters!

I 100% agree that no matter what, you and your DH get to make the name choices--it's hard not to be swayed by others' comments, BUT when all is said and done, they are your girls and your names.

I posted awhile back about whether or not to announce names. We decided not to for this very reason--we didn't want someone's opinion to make us reconsider what we chose (and what we like for OUR daughters).

FWIW, a friend and his wife named one of their twin daughters Blakely (they are 3 yrs. old now)--and I think that it is precious and totally suits her!

GL with whichever names you choose! They will be PERFECT!!

I love the name Blakely, but together, it is kinda a mouth full. I think its because they both start and end with the same letter.

I am a photog and just had a newborn girl named Blakely, I think its an adorable name for a girl.

It's NMS, however I don't think it's that bad. I think Bella is really cute though. I really don't like Bailey though.
